If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I am trying to get an 83 850 going and the ignition system is just not working out. Coils were intermittent so I acquited new ones from Dennis Kirk but they turned out to be 4.7 ohm and I think I ruined the ECU. May have already been no good. Doesn't really matter. I just need to move forward and find a solution. I would replace the Ignition Module and coils if I could find them but they appear to be not available. The Dynatek seems to be the best bet for a complete system and giving that this engine has no mechanical advance parts theDyna 2000 is what I am looking at. Support at Dynatek has been very helpful and they have advised me to try to find a brass timing plate from and older GS 750 or 1100. So I am asking for help from anyone who can advise me on how to stay out of trouble with this retrofit and where I might be able to find a timing plate and possibly a mechanical advance assembly that would enable me to use the Dyna DS3-2 kit. Thanks, Steve in Vermont

Posting in the Parts Wanted forum for what you need would be a good start.

Steve,

I am in the middle of this myself. 1982 GS850G with the ignition advance in the box under seat. I went to Babbits parts fiche and found the part number for the timing plate and mechanical advance, then went to ebay for the part. You will also need the bolt, timing plate, and (they call it) a washer that fits under the bolt and grabs ahold of the ears of the mechanical advance unit. When you look at the fiche you will see what I mean. The bike is currently at the shop waiting for the conversion, not because it is difficult but that my garage is around 130F and I make a mess of wiring, so leave it for the pros.

Could I ask that you post a picture of your timing plate area. The mechanic told me my parts won't fit, but all he did was take the cover off and look, I never have, and when I got there today he had it back together. I am sure the parts are fine. I left the factory manual with him and it may have caused confusion as the newest ignition, (what we have) is not pictured, nor is it well described in the manual.

Thanks
