    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

'83 GS1100E Oil Cooler Question

Hi... I'm new to the forum, but I've had my 1100 ED since it was new in '83. I originally fitted a Lockhart oil cooler... attached via the oil filter cover. It always leaked at the hose fittings. I'd like to clean things up a bit... I noticed that at the block (next to the oil filter cover) there are two large bolts marked in and out. Can I connect my oil cooler there? What type of fittings would I use?

Do any of the later GS' have a factory oil cooler and connections that I could adapt?

I think that the 1150s had the oil cooler that hooks up to those bolts but you need the 1150 oil filter cover to ensure correct oil flow
 
Did your cooler come with steel braided hoses and anodized A/N fittings? Mine did, and I used teflon tape on the threads and they've never leaked a drop in 17 years.
 
Yes it did... However, the way the fittings are tapped into the oil filter cover, to make them tight you end up interfering with the cover attachment bolts and cap nuts... I'm not sure I explained that correctly?

did you try teflon tape--using various amounts will allow you to controll where the connection ends up--i had the same problem. also, I used auto transmission line for oil line and there is a product for gluing metal to rubber which may help((still used screw type clamps) maybe some other products ill bet.
 
I have a Lockhart on my "83" 1100 E and the lines hook in the oil filter cover. I have a "85", & "86" 1150 sitting right beside the 1100, and it looks like everything off the 1150s oil cooler, lines, fittings & all,will hook up perfectly on the 1100
