Hi, I am new to this site, and I love it!! Best 1 out there. Too bad you dont have one for Kawasaki. Anyway, I have a GS1150E, You know , the GSXR Superbike Prototype, and up untill a few months ago, it was a buddy's bike. now it is mine!! wootwoot!!

It currently has a Dynatek 2000 Ign. module and it ran before and after the install. all of a sudden, now, it doesnt seem to give any spark! Is there a chance the Dyna 2000 could 'fry'? My bud and i checked the whole charging system - good - . New spark plugs, coils seem to be fine, starter turns, compression is evident. Did the spark plug-manifold test, and no spark........ Any suggestions?[-o<

I'm not an expert on this but there were different coils used on the GS. SOme had 3 ohms resistance others had 5 ohms. It might be your ig module was mismatched with the coils.

If you can go back to stock I would. THe 1150 is a monster and I personally cannot imagine needing more power from that beast.

But then again I drive a 650G so I am more humble about motorcycle acceleration.

I would sell that troublesome thing asap.

Uh .. could you post up some pics for us potential suckers ?

you are right about it being a beast, but he doesnt have the OE ignition, and i cant afford it, right now!! lol. the dyna, to my understanding, is an exact match. as explained before, the bike ran well, for at least a year ,and it had the dyna. it, was sitting, for about 6mo. before today. we tried about 2 mo. ago, to start it, and found this prob. also as another member stated, the sidestand light is constantly on, and the dyna has a cut-off feature dealing with the switch. i dunno if it has been enabled or not, so i guess the first step is to take care of the sidestand. how? LOL

If you will look at the sidestand, you will see the switch and wires of the sidestand switch. Its an always off, momentary on switch. When the sidestand is up, the switch is held in the on position and you have a completed ignition circuit. A quick temp fix is to bypass the switch and connect its two wires. Also, you can go to Lowes/Home Depot and buy a button type off/momentary on switch that will work with some minor creativity. I did that on my 1150 when the switch went bye bye. :-)
If it isnt the switch, it may be the R/R overcharging at too much voltage.
That will destroy a Dyna 2000 ignition system. It did on mine. I had to replace the R/R and send the Dyna to their service center.

The Dyna does not have a "cut off" feature for the sidestand switch. The switch simply cuts off the current before it reaches the Dyna.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but lowering the sidestand will not kill the ignition on an 1150.... it just turns on the idiot light. At least that's the way it has always been on mine.

Hmmm, well Bruce, since you're the original owner of yours, its pretty safe to say yours is probably stock or at least, if it had been changed, you would most likely know about it. LOL All I can tell you is on the one I bought from David Price about 5 years ago, the ignition was inoperative if the sidestand was down. I just figured they were manufactured that way.

I just looked it up in my manual. It only turns on the idiot light and is not hooked into the ignition. But that's not to say that it wasn't done on yours or on this one.

If the light stays on with the switch closed, either the switch is bad or the wire going to it is grounding out. Sounds like you need to get the wiring diagram on the Dyna 2000 and see where everything is hooked up to see if the problems are related.

Hey howdy hey!

Mr. Dj Slayer,

Let it be known that on this day you are cordially and formally welcomed to the GSR Forum as a Junior Member in good standing with all the rights and privileges thereof. Further let it be known that good standing can be improved with pictures (not you, your bike)! :-D

There are lots of good people here who are teaching me how to be a better motorcycle mechanic and rider, as you can see. Thanks for joining us.

Thank you for your indulgence,

Time to get a voltage meter on the dyna and see if your getting power to it. Work the sidestand switch and see if power is interrupted or anything else changes.

Don't troubleshoot with a credit card just yet.....
