DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

850L exhaust question

Just gonna add a little curiosity to the thread with the hope of not hijacking it.

I took some pics of the exhaust on my '81 850G because they are nothing like any of the megaphone exhausts pictured. My 450L has the open center hole with the plate behind the outer ones. Now I do not know if the system is the one that came on the bike from factory, but if you can see on my crappy cell phone pics, the stampings do say they are from Suzuki and specifically for the 850. Maybe ya'll can shed some light on them and I just thought I would provide another example of an 850G exhaust.

Those are the regular 850G pipes, the ones in question are the L model 850 pipes.

Ok, that is what I thought, but I couldn't find any other decent pics of factory G model pipes. The only reason I brought this up was because he mentioned the L pipes bolting up no problem and since Ls are the only thing I have messed with before I got my G I kinda assumed (obviously wrongly) that all GS megaphones were that same style. Thanks

Hi Mr. WesV,

I know, it's a long thread to read all the way through. ;)

I had to replace the exhaust on my 1980 GS850G because of an accident. One of the generous members here gave me his old exhaust from a 1980 GS850GL because he had replaced his with a 4-n-1. The exhaust on my bike now is actually an GS850GLT exhaust. And I think I'm going to like it. :D

As far as the open center hole question, I have it on good authority that this is, indeed, the stock configuration for the 1980 version of the 850L exhaust. I don't know why it was changed for other models and years.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Cliff,
I have no doubt that with all the members that come and go on here you don't remember me, but I certainly remember you, your accident and all that Jessie has gone through to get to this point. I have a bad habit of lurking for 6-8 months at a time without posting and then spend 2 weeks posting actively and have been doing it this way since '03 when I originally joined.

I read through the whole thread (twice as a matter of fact so I could be sure I had all the info right) but I was still in confusion over the stock pipes and I apologize for hijacking the thread for the past several posts.

Hi Mr. WesV,

Sure, I remember seeing you around from time to time. You've been around here a lot longer than I have. :D

And I didn't mean to imply that you were a "Johnny-come-lately". I'm sorry if it seemed that was the case. I was just trying to clear up any confusion. Don't worry about the "threadjack". I took no offense. It's not really "my" thread. I just started it. I don't mind sharing, no, not one little bit. :)

BassCliff Your words make me think I won't hate the sound of the exhaust.

Cliff, I think you will like the sound of the pipe. As Brian mentioned the G pipes are very quiet and the L pipes are maybe a bit louder but not by very much. You will still be quieter than 95% of other bikes on the road.
