    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

86 Suzuki GS450 Vacuum and Ground problems......any advice will help

First of all, thanks to all those who continually try to help me as a noob.....I actually got my bike running for a good week, and then the same problems started happening. It's definitely a Vacuum/Fuel Delivery issue. Both sets of carbs have been cleaned and looked at 3 different times by 3 different people, and they look great. I've replaced the petcock as well.

With that, when it's running, it runs great, and people say it could be timing, but I'm not sure if it would actually run that well if it was timing.

After all that, the problem that exists is that it doesn't pull fuel (or enough fuel) through the carbs to hold a good idle, or if I get it started, it doesn't pull fuel (or enough fuel) through the carbs to run smoothly.

On top of that, now I have draw that doesn't allow me to charge my battery properly. Where can I check for ground problems?

Anybody have any good advice:lol:

Where are you located? I have looked though some of your previous posts with the ongoing theme of not being able to figure out where all the connections go on the carbs. What you need is some hands-on help, but we have no idea who might be close enough to help you.

That would be awesome. I'm in the Portland, Oregon area. Anybody close by?
 
Portland, lot of GSers there.

First of all there's no drawing fuel. It runs down hill from the tank to the carbs. That's all.
The vacuum is a separate line, and merely switches the petcock on. The vacuum does not pull fuel.

You could have a clogged tank vent, clogged fuel filter, kinked fuel line? Lots of other choices, these are common ones.

Even if the immediate problem is not the valves, you still need to adjust them or they will eventually burn.
 
Thanks to everyone for the list of stuff to check for my fuel problems. Any advice on where I can start as far as checking for draws on the battery? What should I be looking for?
 
Here is what I just wrote to someone else that's having problems:

Use your voltmeter across the fuse holders, see which one shows voltage.
This would at least limit your search to just one third of the wiring on the bike. :o

The top fuse feeds the headlight, tail light and instrument lights.
The second fuse feeds signals, which include turn signals, brake lights and horn.
The third fuse feeds the ignition system.

That should at least get you started.

Update:

I checked my gas before I started doing everything you guys suggested, and noticed my gas was blue, which was the same as the coating used by the radiator shop to re-seal the tank. Long story short, they said the tank didn't dry properly, and they agreed to re-seal it. Until then, I think I'll just check the easy stuff, and as much as I can to make sure when I throw that tank back on. It will be ready.
 
Yee! Well at least you found out what the problem is. Did they tell you what the turnaround time would be?

I would clean that crap out of your carbs as soon as I possible since you never know what is in it and what effect it might have on the rubber parts, etc. At the very least, open the taps on the float bowls and drain what is already in there. If its going to take a while to get your tank back, consider setting up some sort of pup tank so that you can flush out the stuff that has gone into the engine (I have a tank from a lawnmower kicking around for situations like this).
