Hey all, Im new to this forum and the motorcycle scene. Just bought a Suzuki Motorcycle. I think the vin# shows it to be a 1981 GS750/E (JS1GR71A4B2..). But the motor says 997cm on the side. Has 2 Chrome Circle Caps for the cams.
I need a starter clutch for it, has dimples on the side and the springs are messed up. What years or models will work? Is there any kind of identification on the motor?

Anybody got a used starter clutch?

Thanks for the help.
Jason

On the right side above the clutch cover their should be a flat spot with the engine serial #s stamped into the motor IF it says GS100 it's not the original motor. What type of carbs does it have. ?

Thanks, it says: GS1000 142711, can I use that # to get the year? Anyway of telling if its a GS1000GL or GS1000G? Will the starter clutch be the same for these models and does the year matter?

Carbs say MIKUNI KOGYO. any good? individual air filters.

Anybody got a starter clutch layin around or know a place to get a used one?

carbs are fine. the GS1000L model will have a leading axle, while the G wont. cant say about your starter motor though.

edit: you said the frame is from a 750E? then the motor cant be G or GL because those are shaft driven, while the E's and every other letter are chain driven.

Whats a leading axle? Just axle drive instead of chain?

Mine is chain driven, so are you saying when I order parts it will have to be for a GS-1000E?

a leading axle is when the front axle is on the front of the fork, not on the bottom. when you order parts, do as tarbash says and order for 78-80 gs1000.

btw: tarbash, did you get rid of your trike?

I have a starter clutch for an 80 750e... BUT what you are saying confuses me. You say it has CIRCULAR cam caps. This is indicitive of an 8v 750 motor (which they stopped making in 79) IF your bike is an 81 stamped neck, someone has swapped the motors in it from a 16V motor for a pre 80 8V motor. (likely cos the original BLEW UP!! BWAHAHAHAHA) But, in my investigation, the starter clutch assemblies between the two designs, according to BikeBandit, are the same part numbers. (one of the few parts the different motor designs had in common apparently) You may double check this for yourself.

It sounds more like somebody has done a 7/10 swap.
Oh yes, right you are Cole...I guess I should pay attention to the damn titles of threads more...heh. At any rate, youve definately got an 8v motor in your bike. (If you ask me, you're better off anyway :) ) In which case, you should check to see if the part numbers for a GS1000 motor starter clutch has the same part numbers as the 750s. If not, then you'd better get a 1000 starter clutch pack.

I think you may have either a GS1000ST or GS1000ET motor in there. The GS1000G is a shaft drive and the model of you motor is likely 1980. I think the cams have different numbers for the ST, but not sure.
Apparently the part number on your Rotor is used to determine the correct starter clutch.
Hope this helps

yeah, I've been searchin for a 1980 GS1000E starter clutch. Im guessin that must be the motor from what all I have heard on here.
part #s on the starter clutch are: 037000-1390, 3S, ND, ALM Z03
