    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Almost. This morning was about 60 degrees. First time in a few weeks we haven't had the central air on. Get up, kick junior out to do his paper route, service the pool. Quarter of eight and everyone else is asleep. Perfect time to roll the 1100 out onto the driveway and clean her up. Black is a dirt magnet.

Roll her out and attempt to put her on the center stand, uh oh. I'm on my ass in the holley bush and the 600 lb Bimbo is on her side. Good thing it's early, we both look like turtles on our backs(side). F%$#! Pick her up and put the side stand down. Looks like I have a little more cleaning then I planned. Damage control report, let's see, hmmmm, need a new left mirror, clutch handle is missing the little testicle off the end, side cover looks scraped, case gaurd is scraped, knee is scraped, left shoulder hurts, dried blood in the middle of my back(no shirt with shorts), pride mortally wounded.

The side cover rubbed out perfectly, touched up the case gaurd, did everything I set out to do in the first place. AOK except for the mirror and clutch handle. I have a one foot piece of 1x6 that I usually roll it up on when I use the center stand, but I've gotten pretty good at muscleing it up without it. Never again. It always seems a little heavy to the left when I don't use the block of wood. Maybe it's just me.

Anyone else gone through this?

Haven't tried to put the 850 on the center stand since I bought it for Fear of the Very Same Result! :oops:
 
Ummm yeah I experienced about the exact same situation about a week after I bought my 850. I was cleaning it and thought "Hey I can put it on the center stand and she'll be stable if I straighten the front fork to clean the wheel". Mind you I didn't consult the board, like I have for everything else, on how to do this :oops: . First two rocks and I got to thinking "Hmm this might be a little harder then I thought, should I really do this?".
Two rocks later and she leaned to the right and I lost my grip. My advantage over yours was I had it on a narrow walk way that had grass on either side. Thus no real damage to the bike but lesson learned. IF YOUR NOT SURE HOW TO DO SOMETHING CONSULT THE MIGHTY BOARD! I always use the boards now with no problems
This being my first bike I have to thank my lucky stars again and again that I bought such a workhorse that has THE BEST pit crew for ANY Bike!
 
I posted this some time ago in the ladies only forum when some of the wee lasses were having trouble putting their 600 lb bikes on the centerstand.
It worked for them.

Well rising star, I'm not supposed to be in this forum, but I too have the same problem due to two herniated disks.
There is no way I could put a 450 on its centerstand either if I were to try to do it the "normal" way. I have no problem putting my 750 on the centerstand and can also put an 1150 on the centerstand if I use my method.
With the bike sitting on level concrete or asphalt, I stand on the left side of the bike. Left hand on the left handlebar grip, right hand on the right handlebar grip. Stand the bike vertical. Place your right foot back slightly so that you have both hands and your right foot making a stable tripod. You will need for a moment to be able to hold the bike steady with two hands and your right foot. Lift and place left foot on the centerstand and push it down until it touches the concrete. Rock bike slightly so be sure you have both sides of the centerstand in contact with the concrete. Step down with all your weight on your left foot. Then, place your right hand on the right underedge of the seat at about the rear shock absorber. STILL holding presssure with your left foot on the centerstand. The bike will stay steady, Now, place your left hand on the left underedge of the seat above the left rear shock absorber. You will now be holding the bike steady with the presssure of your left foot on the centerstand and you will be standing next to the bike and beside the rear shock on the left side. Your left leg will have a slight bend in it. At the same time, straighten your left leg and pull back and only slightly upwards with both hands.

Have someone "spot" you the first couple times you do it this way as it does take a few times to get used to the balance and feel of using this positioning, You should have no problem at all. Mostly, its just a matter of leverage and position and you will soon feel confident about how to balance it with a little repetition.

An edit to the last portion.............
As you press with your left foot on the centerstand and pull back and up with both hands on the seat sides, You want to be standing with foot placement such that when the bike comes up on the centerstand, you will be standing straight up.
(That means you will start the pull leaning forward slightly.) For my height (5'9") that places my right foot about even with and behind the back/tread of the rear tire.

Sunday morning turned out much better. I decided to go through my boxes of spare parts. When doing my restoration I had a tendency to buy more than what I needed. I found a new clutch lever, and installed it. Had to re-adjust the clutch cable because of the wear on the old handle. Back to the boxes, found the original mirror I saved, crappy, but good mirror glass. Removed the glass and put in the frame on the bike. Tried to straighten the fairing supports a little, whoops, broke the choke thumb thingy off. Back to the boxes, yup had one, installed it. The only thing left is the case gaurd is a bit bent. OK for now, I may take them off anyway. I have a chin fairing from an 80 something Kawi 600R in the garage. Next project.

Earl, the 1x6 works perfect. As long as I'm not to lazy to get it out. I won't be from now on. Still a little sore, and the lady thing made me feel much better. Weiner.
