DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

A bee in the bonnet...

I was in Hawaii, riding my R100M BMW when I saw something fly up around my friend's bike in front and I got hit by some sort of gravel. Full face and windscreen, but the gravel turned out to be a swarm of bees and at least 10 or so managed to get my neck and along the top of my jacket.
Lots of traffic in the fast lane, so unable to get over quickly. WoooHooo, I am surely glad I wasn't allergic! My whole neck area swelled up. Luckily, my buddies were other Paramedics and kept watch, although there were lots of jokes about not bugging them, etc.

Having felt the sting a time or two myself, Your comment got me to laughing aloud

Same here...

Same here...

I had one fly up into my open visor on my full helmet. It didn't sting me, but it scared the hell out of me when it was buzzing around in my helmet! I quickly grabbed the helmet, flipped up the visor and held the helmet over as far as I could to get the wind blowing through it to get the bugger out of there. Was a worrysome ten seconds!

I don't know if I've said this here before, but I used to work with someone who had actually gotten shot off his bike. At least that's what he said thinks happened. Way he figured it, someone was shooting in the woods perpendicular to the road. He came along and hit the bullet as it was travelling across the road. Says whatever it was, it just knocked him clear off his bike and skipping down the road...said he won't ever ride a bike again.

Afriend of mine said he was abducted by aliens and they took the bike with him--when he got back it had flatslides and a big bore kit installed

I'm sure there is a law prohibiting that and I wish the police would enforce it for the kids' own safety.

Here in Indiana, my understanding is the only time you are required to wear a helmet is when you are on a learners permit. Once you get a full endorsement, you can ride without a helmet if you so desired.

Personally, mine will always be worn.

Hey Slowpoke,
At least that's what he told his wife when she got the bill.[/quote]

BZZZ..BBBZZZZ...sting sting!!!

BZZZ..BBBZZZZ...sting sting!!!

Oh god!!
Oh Im laughing so hard it hurts
I got a bee down the jacket...you know the tiny triangle between the top of the jacket and the lower lip of the helmet.
It must have been quite the sight of me punching myself in the abdomen over and over rolling down the road at thirty five trying to nail the sucker ....didn't work, he got me two times. 8O

Late 70's, riding a Kawasaki 175 enduro style bike, returning from a mountain ride, about 2 miles from my parents' house, probably doing about 40 mph, caught some sort of bee dead center at the base of my neck. Never saw what variety it was, but it was as if he hit tail first. Continued on to Dad's house; cleaned up, laid down. I'd had some mild allergic reactions in the past (first one was from a bee up my shirt sleeve while riding bicycle at a leisurely pace maybe 10 years earlier), so when I felt my lips getting numb, we headed for the emergency room. After a shot and some observation time, all was well. :D

bugged

bugged

The worst I had riding was a june bug, in Washington state, riding my old Trumper...hit me in the middle of my forehead and nearly rolled me off. Once in the Navy, I was high on a mast, removing a coaxial connecter from an attenna, hanging out from the mast with one arm and no safety belt, when a bee stung me in the arm pit. That was a rush. I got down...

Sorry, I lost track of this post for awhile. Kobyj, I meant I believe that eye protection is mandatory for everyone to protect them from bugs, rocks, dust, truck tires, etc...

WOW! You must wear some really substantial goggles to ward off
truck tires. LOL

As you may recall, that's how "Easy Rider" ended. Maybe that was life just trying to imitate art. :(

So it's been about two decades since I really rode on a regular basis.
And I just don't remember the bugs being -
a. this plentiful
b. this large and hard shelled
c. this juicy once smashed (yuck)
d. all of the above

Now when I was twenty, hitting a June bug at 70 miles an hour was a life affirming event. Now it just plain hurts like hell.
So is it just me or has all this monkeying around with DNA, genes and
nuclear energy spawned these "motorcycle unfriendly" bugs.

Two bees!

Two bees!

I was pulling up to a light when something flew against my chest just above the neckline of my shirt, but I figured it was a small stone kicked up by a car. As I sat at the light, suddenly I started to get stung like crazy on my back.I pulled over, put the bike on the sidestand, pulled off my shirt, as all the cagers looked at me like I was crazy. I found and killed a yellowjacket, and checked my shirt. Not seeing anything else, I put my shirt back on, got on the bike, and pulled back out to the light. I start to get stung again! So I pull over again, rip my shirt off again, and find the SECOND bee ( which I squashed)! Everyone at the light is really giving me the eye now. I've always figured the bees were getting romantic, and I spoiled their tryst, so they were just getting even.
