    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1. I didn't know I missed it, but I noticed that unique air-cooled motorcycle smell of hot exhaust and oil when I stepped into the garage after ride today. It was intoxicating. Odd that I never considered all the things having a bike would call to my attention.

2. Passed up a chance to buy a Honda Trail 50, maybe 70, today. Out riding in the wilds of Indiana between Avon and Danville (not that wild, if I'm honest--though I did see a coyote,) and spotted a little Honda on the side of the road with a sign for $50. Kicking myself for not buying it. Mostly there and it would have been a fun restoration. May swing by tomorrow and see if it is still there. I'll take the Miata so I can carry it home.
 
I've been missing the sun these past few days. It seems every time I finish something on the bike, the sun goes away...

I hear you about the bike in the garage smell. I noticed that too after almost three years without a bike. I don't want to fix all the tiny leaks on the bike.. It just wouldn't smell right.
 
I realized I missed my horse today when my Aunt finally brought her back after borrowing her for a barrel racing series.
 
Honda Trail 70s were the first decent minibikes:

For the day they were a lot of fun, with Honda reliability. They are collectibles if they are in good condition.

The Trail 50 is not as much of a collectible, but kinda cute in its own way:

An adult could fit on a Trail 70 (CT70), not sure on the Trail 50 (Z50).
 
Looks like the Trail 70 picture. I think I could get it in the passenger seat as long as the top is down.

I got a trail 50 when I was 12 or so. bought it from a neighbors garage sale for $35. My Brother in Law helped me get it running by cleaning the carb, and sanding some rust off the stator. That thing was so cool because the handlebars had large thumbscrews that you loosened and they flipped right down. That thing would pack in the trunk and be ready to ride in seconds.

Rode it for a few years and ended up selling it at my garage sale for like $50. Now a days I wish I had it again. Of course it would be completely gone through.

I just bought a Yamaha PW50 for my 6 year old son for Christmas. SHhhh. It's a surprise! :D
 
The trail 70's also have handlebars that would rotate and they also fit in the trunk. ;)

I am shocked what a CT70 or a Z50 goes for around here. Ridiculous prices for both. There's a very rough Trail 70 going for over $1000 on DC CL right now. Don't get me wrong, they're great bikes, and I'd especially like a 70 for my collection, but h@ll, you can get a decent GS550 or bigger for prices like that.

But back to the thread about missing things:
1) I missed the simple pleasure of a motorcycle with not much power and whose handling had little quirks, like wanting to stand up in the corners when you apply brakes. You'd think you'd always want a perfect bike, but sometimes it engages your mind better when everything isn't so bloody easy (power, handling).

2) But going the other way, since I'm still messing around to get old carburetors working right, I'm starting to miss fuel injection. LOL!
 
Old thread I realized, but the CT70 bug just bit me too! I found a 79 for next to nothing at a yard sale and got it running without a lot of effort, but it's in rough shape and probably not worth restoring. I started doing some research and couldn't BELIEVE what these things were bringing on eBay, so I started scouring Craigslist for a few weeks and got a real good deal on a 1970 model up in Ohio, fully restored, original owner, $1500 bucks. I've seen similar go for 3-4K so I know I did well on it, going to let my daughter ride this for a few years, she's 14 now, I'm sure she'll be done with it by 21, probably be worth 3 times that by then. LOL. I had the 79 up to 35 mph, and this 70 model up to 40, so this little things will scoot! Just thought I'd share, I think they are great vintage little bikes to tinker around with. We used to have a 50 as well as a CT90. I was looking at a CT110 locally the other day. Such GREAT memories! You find the coolest stuff, Tornado, and that little monster is mint!
 
Gotta start a bike up in the shop once in a while or it just doesn't smell right. I recently traded my 1966 ct90 for a 2002 ttr 125, both of us are happy, and he even brought it to me.

I know I would miss my Trail 70 if it wasn't for the fact that I still own it after 40 years.:cool::cool::cool:
