    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Why don't you just do plug chops? That will tell you if you are rich or lean. You are not very likely to get it right by guessing that is for sure.

Plug chops are still a guess.

I found a local yard with the lid and filter.

The kidney shaped port at the back of the carb is the vacuum source for the top of the diaphragm. At some point the low pressure moving through the throat of the carb needs help with an increased differential via the top of the diaphragm.

This is why I love fuel injection.

Just FYI, if one uses CARB certified aftermarket components (mostly 4 wheeled vehicles though, not sure there are many CARB approve pieces for bikes), there shouldn't be a problem with any emissions testing.

CARB must have something to do with bikes, as it was the subject of a Cycle World column a year or so ago (I think it was about aftermarket exhausts).

Ok, ditched the air box. Figured if I'm going to be playing the jetting game, might as well run pods.... With a twist.

1 up on the pilot, 2 up on the main, engineered some pods, now it pulls to 8k, mid range is strong, surge is gone, and it sounds GREAT.

I've got some 130 mains, and 1 size down from where I'm at now. That will help me judge the right direction...... I'll be damned if it ends up running right on stock jetting. That would be one of those awesome, cheap, HP mods that other 650s could do. Maybe the 650 is just that different.

Pulled the snorkels out of there air box, pulled the inner retaining rings, picked up some foam material, put this foam to the entrance of the snorkel, pushed the ring in till it was flush, trimmed the foam with a razor, then seated the ring. $2 pods and velocity stacks.

I have pics I'll post.
