Hi, I'm new to the forum and new to my bike. My hog has been a 68 Hodaka ACE100 for awhile now. I wanted a big boy bike so I traded a Kawi KE100 for the GS. Anyway, I rode it home from where I got it to my friends a few miles away.
It ran, but would not go past 4000 rpms in all gears, just kinda slugged out. It was missing the air filter and cover and just had some egg crate shoved in the filter hole

I plan on rebuilding the carbs, so question is, should I keep looking for a stock air box (which has been very unsuccessful) or buy quality pods and re-jet while the carbs are apart? I rather get back to stock, but I don't want to wait and wait.
Also I'm pretty much a beginner on the GS, but I noticed when I down shifted and left off the clutch the drive train would slow way down and chirp the rear tire. Novice down shifting or could something be going on?
