    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

After you get done making fun of me, please help!

So I pulled the plugs today to check and regap them and when I was putting the plug back in number 2, I cross threaded it. Well, being the moron I am, I tried to force the plug down instead up pulling it out and trying again. Now, I cannot get the plug to seat properly. What options do I have?

I figured it was going to be something like that, but I was hoping for a tip to do it without having to drill the hole out. Oh well, will purchase the kit tomorrow for the spark plug.
 
I'd try to run a tap down the hole, straight this time, to try to clean up the origional threads. Use grease on the tap and pull it out during the tapping process to collect the chips. If that fails, you are going to have to Helicoil or install an insert of some type.
 
I have to do that next time I replace the plugs on my 850 too, also the #2 cyl
I found a neat kit uses a timesert. www.jcwhitney.com item # GM144235 Only for the 14mm plugs
 
Spark plugs are a definite exception to the rule "If it don't fit , force it". LOL

I just ordered that, gonna use it on #4 cylinder on the 700. The top half of the threads are stripped, but there's still about three good turns at the bottom of the hole that hold the plug in place. I've been waiting for it to completely give way every time I remove and install a plug.

As for laughing about a stripped spark plug hole, I doubt if there aren't too many people here who haven't done something similar at least once. Just part of the learning process about working on our bikes.

Especially since it is signicantly cheaper than a heli-coil kit. I need to make a JC Whitney order soon, so I am going to pick this up.
