    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Aftermarket Gear Indicators

Bike: '82 GS750

Has anyone added an aftermarket gear indicator light? Did you have to do anything special? which light did you use?

I don't think there is any need to go aftermarket on this one.

The selector switch on your bike (yes, I know it's 'modified') is the same switch that is used on virtually all GSes from '79 through '83, sizes from 425 through 1100. Why not just get a housing from an older bike that does not have that computerized setup that was stock on your bike? Either that, or just make your own housing and wire it up to your existing switch. It can be any configuration you want, just needs to house six small bulbs with the numbers of your choice.

Steve there was just a thread looking at a few different digital displays that are new designs on eBay. They were quite modestly priced.
 
OK, I must have missed it, but I have not been looking for any lately. :-\\\

It wasn't stated specifically, but I get the impression that Kyler is looking to put it on his racing hack, so a full speedo/tach/etc. display might be too much.

I'm actually heading in the opposite direction and have deleted my gear indicator. Don't see alot of use in it.

Well, as Steve said,this is for my road racing sidecar.

My old motor didn't have one. I was thinking it would be neat to add one since the new motor has it.

Unless I'm looking at the wrong set of wires, it appears there is a wire per gear. The plug is a 6-way with a separate power feed.

this is probably the cheapest way to go. I could get some LEDs and make a light bar.
 
That is the craziest thing I've seen! LOL looks more like a rocket powered sled than a motorcycle! Hehe!

No, it appears that you are looking at it correctly. :D

Somewhere inside the gauge cluster is a power wire that feeds all the indicator bulbs. The ground (earth) wires for all of the bulbs go down through the harness to the selector switch beside the engine output shaft, where the ground (earth) is completed for one light at a time, depending on the gear.

As mentioned earlier, the selector switches all seem to be the same, so finding one should be easy.

To help you visualize the circuit, I edited an 850 wiring diagram to show you just the instrument wiring.
