    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message.   • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

air box instal

Im sure its on here somewhere anyone have a linkon how to install an airbox on a81 450t..... also i tried getting it in through the fram and i cant find a place to get it into the fram of the bike where it needs to go.. looks like it might fight if i take the back tire offbut just got that on and not trying to take it off if its not gonna fit that way either
 
Hi,

In those really tight spaces you have to take off the carbs too. Put the airbox in place first, slide it back as far as possible. Then install the carbs and connect the airbox. For a little extra room you can loosen up the rear fender and slide the air box back a little more. Sometimes you even have to take off a couple of motor mount bolts and tilt the engine forward to have enough room.

Danm i was afraid of having to take the carbs off are there them rubber circles that thagt go between the air box and carbs like whats between the carbs and engine ..i cant think of what there called i wanna say bushing or couplings .... also i had a question about jetting is there a way to tell if its been done to the bike already cuz the guy who had te bike moved all the electrical took the electrical panel off and cut the brackets that the air box screws into off the bike so wasnt sure maybe he had it jetted
 
couple comments

First off, when you search, anything that applies to about a 1980ish gs450 to about 1986 for just about any letter designation will apply to your 450T, especially for stuff like getting an airbox in. The main differences will be things like tire size, some disk brakes vs drums on the rear of some models, gages, seat and tank. Even the gs400 of the same years shares the same frame and many parts.

The rubber circles are called boots. You should periodically check them for any signs of cracks. Visually is fine if you don't see any cracks on the surface you are probably ok, although if there is a leak there are better ways of checking - search carb boot leak -

Is it jetted? well does it run well? If it runs well in all rev ranges, idles steady and accelerates well, then you are probably jetted. If it doesn't run well, then it could be one or more of many causes.

The guy cut the tabs off? Did you bike not come with an airbox? If it came without or had pod filters then it is possible the carbs have been altered

Just wanted to add a quick note to this: both sets of boots should be pliable as well. Soft like rubber, not hard like plastic or anywhere in between. On my bike, the boots between the airbox and carbs were original. They were not cracked, but they had hardened and shrunk to the point that they would fit neither in the airbox nor on the carbs properly.

As for the boots between the carbs and the engine, if those get hard they may fit okay but they make it a bear to install and remove the carbs.
 
Yea im not sure why the things got cut off it didnt have an air box when i.bought it right now it dosnt have mufflers on it but the exhaust pipes are itll starft up and sound good if i have the choke all the way on if i give it gas or pull the chock off itt shut off.. if i let it run for a bit i can bring the chock closer to the off and when i put it down towards the on itll rev up.. wasnt sure if there was any visable ways of telling if it was jetted or will it matter if its jeted and i put an airbox on it instead of the cone filters
 
1) please use periods and commas.. not sure I completely understand what you write.

2) Chances are your bike is jetted just fine. It's not really possible to tell when you have no air box and no mufflers. Try to get some mufflers before you change anything inside the carbs. It sounds like you are currently running lean, ie. not enough fuel and too much air into the engine, but running with just pipes and no muffler will do that.
To answer your question there is no visible indication to tell if carbs are properly setup.

If you have no airbox and the bike stalls when you give it gas, chances are you are running pretty lean. You'll have to disassemble the carbs and visually inspect the jets to see what size they are.

Do you at least have pod filters? You must also have a good exhaust to run properly. See Top 10 Newbie Mistakes.

No the bike had no confilters on it when i bought it... yea i just started it once i got the pipes; on tomake sure my engine wasnt srized. But yea im waiting for this action to end so i can get the boots hopfully this weekend ill letcha know how it turns out.. thanks for the help
 
it's easier to get the airbox in once you remove the carbs. and battery box. It's still a pain, but even you take your time and turn it on it's side while putting into frame it will squeeze in there. Easier if you go in from one side than the other, sorry I can't recall which way at the moment. terrylee
 
Stupid question but just wanna make sure i get it right does the triangle peice on the bix where all the weiting is face down twoards the ground or up towards the seat.... also i couldnt find boots for the airbox thevones i got are for the carbs( the short ones) would i be able to use them
 
Anyone know where i can find the boits ive looked everywhere online
 
Sorry hate my phone u click one letter and itll put another... im looking for the boots that go from the airbox to the carbs
 
G&S Suzuki sells them as well as any of the parts dealers. Look at the parts fiche for you bike and order them new - they will run about $25 each but it's money well spent
 
im trying to get the airbox on the carbs but im having problems. do the bots that come out the air box a few cm go over the carbs i was trying to do that and the boots just push into the box.
