So currently I have one of those small cheapo pod filters before the stock airbox. It sits behind the side cover with a hole drilled in the panel.
I recently picked up a bit larger K&N to replace the cheapo since it is really dirty and kind of falling apart. So I swapped them out and went for a ride. ran fine till I opened er up and it just bogged. Put the smaller/dirtier filter back on and the side cover back on and it ran good again.
So I was just curious if it maybe had anything to do with the side cover being off and the filter more exposed in the test run that it got too much air or just the larger filter in general bringing in too much air. Since the filter is a bit larger I didn't feel like cutting the hole in the panel to compensate until I knew if it would work or not. But if it might work if the side cover was back on I will go ahead and make the hole larger and give it a shot. The filter is similar to this one for size...
