A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm working on cleaning/rebuilding my carbs. However, I've run into a roadblock: I can't get the cap over the air screw to come off...I've heard you can drill it out, but I'm a bit weary of taking a drill near my carbs.

Any suggestions for getting that ridiculous cap off?
Much appreciated.

tried the screw...that darn cap wouldn't come out...
I sprayed some liquid wrench and I'll try again in morning

You could use a spring-loaded center punch to keep the drill bit centered (or to keep a screw centered while you drive it in). You don't have to drill out the whole cap (in my limited experience). It comes out once you get a tiny drill bit through and wiggle it around by hand.

Use the drill. Don't be afraid.
Drill the hole, put in a screw and pull it out. It really is that simple.

That is the method, jet kits actually come with the bit and the screw for doing it. drill a small hole, screw a screw in just far enough to get a good bite and yank it out. Be careful to not drill far enough to damage the screw underneath.

Drill

I think a variable speed drill is a pretty safe way to do it. If you still can't get it, Bill (Chef) will come over to your house and get it out for you.;)

Use a brad or a tiny nail as a punch and tap it in dead center.

There is a slot running across the screw under the cap

Tapping the nail in usually deforms the cap enough to pull it away from the sides. If not, use the depression you made to try a screw.

If all else fails, you can use a hand drill on it

ok so i got brave and got the drill out...needless to say the drill is dead (not the battery)...lol anyone know anything about fixing drills? jk
so i think i'll attempt to chisel away the cap - about how thick is the cap?

The cap is about 2mm thick (less than 1/8 inch).

There is usually about twice that amount of room below it before you get to the mixture screw.

what about a greyhound ticket? you can stop off here first or on the way back. :D
