DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I just picked up an 82 GS850, looks like the motor was removed from the bike at some point, and someone decided to take the easy way instead of unclipping all the wires they chose to use side cutters.

I have most of it figured out so far but i am just struggling with the stator, R/R, harness conections

from the Stator i have:
RED
WHITE/RED stripe
WHITE/GREEN stripe

FRom the R/R I have:
3 YELLOW
1 RED
1 BLACK/WHITE stripe

and hanging from the harnes i have:
WHITE/RED stripe
WHITE/GREEN stripe
RED

if anyone has ANY information that could help "rectify" my situation
i would be eternaly greatfull.

Thanks,
Matt

Using whatever means you prefer, the three stator wires go to the three yellow wires on the R/R. It does not matter which wires match, as long as each yellow wire has a wire from the stator feeding it.

The red wire from the R/R goes to the battery PLUS terminal, the black wire with white stripe is usually connected to a ground point somewhere, but is best connected straight to the battery.

The wires hanging from the harness were evidently somewhere between the stator and R/R. Use them if you can, just make sure you have good connections from stator to R/R to battery.

I've got a color wiring diagram for the '82 GS850 I can send you. PM me with your e-mail address. It's about 2MB.

If you connect the red wire from the R/R directly to the battery, make sure to install an inline fuse.

It would be best to get the wiring diagram and hook it back stock.

Yeah, I guess I forgot about that little detail.

OK, since we are now hooking a fuse in line, my manual shows that it's a 15-amp fuse. \\:D/
