A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Another of those "oh crap" moments.

So in an effort to sort out my low oil pressure situation on the 550 project, I got into the sump this morning. As soon as I looked in I had that moment. I was hoping for the oil pump screen to be clogged but no such luck. Everything clean and pristine. No sludge, no shavings, nothing that would account for the problem.

So now it seems I am facing a defective oil pump. Sadly, they don't make them anymore but fortunately I have a spare engine that I guess I can steal from. Not that I want to have to do that as I don't know its history but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

Now it doesn't look like a real easy job and could be difficult to do in the bike so I'm wondering if it will be easier with the engine out?

What do the experts recommend?

As always, all input is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
spyug

How about running the spare engine while you tear into this one?
Take your time, find a good used pump if that's what it needs?

That thought had gone through my mind but its the one with the modified igniter/pickup setup and I'd have to rewire it. Plus the thought of pulling it from its frame and switching with this one then back again is not appealing. I had hoped this one would be a quick fixer up and I'd have it on the road......well I guess not.

I think I found a pump fairly locally anyway so I think I'll go that route. I have the 750 to ride so there's no great rush. I want to get back to the Kat project to finish it up for sale so I guess this one can go to the back of the list for awhile.

Its going to be musical bikes in the man cave for awhile yet I guess.

Cheers,
Spyug
