DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Has a 72mm bore instead of 69mm?

Odd that its the same bore size as an 1100. I havent done one of these before, so maybe this is normal for the GS850. Just not used to this on my other builds.

The 850 and 1000 share the same head gasket. Maybe the 1100 does too?

7981gs, what was the result with that? Makes no sense to me, and the oem gasket was certainly 69mm, but....

Heres a pic:

None of them share the same head gasket.
Could you use a 1000 head gasket on a 850? Yes. BTDT.

Daniel

Okay Daniel, then please tell me why both the 850 and 1000 have the same head gasket part number?:-\\\

Where are they listed as the same part number?

Bikebandits OEM list number is not the same, but that isn't OEM number.

No need for the sarcasm. I don't have the parts fiche here. Was asking because I didn't know, not because I doubted you.

To save on inventory space and obviously whoever updated them to the same part number doesn't care. ;)
Do I HAVE to take pictures of the 3 different gaskets for you to be a believer?
I CAN. :-\\\

You lose about 1 cc in combustion chamber volume. I.E.: slightly lower compression ratio.
Until carbon builds up in the extended quench area.

Daniel, what's different between the 850 and 1000 gaskets? I know Suzuki played around with different methods of sealing the cylinder stud areas. I'll have a look at the NOS Suzuki gaskets I have when I get home.

69mm vs. 70mm bore I.D.

Got it!

that's why they list P/N 12140 49001 as fitting an 850, because it's used on a 1.0mm oversize bore.

okay... that expands my search for piston rings a bit.
