A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey everybody I just swapped a new to me engine into my bike the whole points setup was removed so I installed the setup off my old engine and I can't get it to fire. I tried testing to points with a test light and I only have voltage to one set and spark on 2 cylinders but it looks erratic and weak. Any help would be appreciated. Oh by the way it's a 77 gs750 but I believe the engine is newer the engine is stamped gs750-72085

Ohio is a big state. You may want to provide a little more information, such as where in Ohio you are.

Did you replace the points, condensers, and spark plugs? Check point gap?

The points get power from the coils. You might want to check to see if both coils have hot power. If not, you have to start tracing wires. Get out your factory Suzuki service manual and pull up the wiring diagram. Easy work, just a bit tedious.

I'm in medina county I will trace some wires later I know only one set of coils have spark

Ok I was able to get it running but only on 2 cylinders I checked all connections for the coils with a test light and they had power I also tried 3 different coils with no luck so where do I go from here? I don't have a manual and can't download one with my phone so any suggestions would be great

Ok so I was able to get power to both sets of points and I switched the coils around and they both work on cylinders 2 and 3 but still no spark on 1 and 4

Old set points also.... actual breaker points yet....?
Two condensors...?
Try swapping the condensors, ....or just disconnecting the one on the set that doesn't spark, if it sparks more (across spark plug gap) with condenser disconnected then know the condenser is bad (and might spark more across points also).

Also, do an ohm check from one cap to the other cap on that coil. Should be about 20K. If much higher than that, take off each cap, cap off of the wire, and do an ohm check on the cap, should be about 5K ohm each.
CAps do go bad with age and useage, go to a higher ohms as they go bad then go completely open (infinite ohms). COst about $5 each.

Medina... south east of Cleveland, right?
(I lived in Euclid for a couple years.)
Cant think of any GSR member near there.
Some more toward Erie PA, and a few in Dayton area (but that is not close).

I got her firing on all 4 now but the timing isn't right and the carbs need a good syncing and fine tune. I also discovered the oil drain hole is stripped anybody know a fix for this that don't require me tearing the bike completely apart again?

Welcome to the forum. The search function is your friend. There is a huge wealth of knowledge here.

Good luck getting your bike sorted out!

Oil pan fixing. Drain the oil and lay the bike over on its right siade after removing the side cover and tank. I layed my 1000 down on a old truck tire for cushion. replace the oil pan and gasket.'

Some have used whats called a Plus 1 drain plug. I have one actually and found it hard to get started to recut the threads so I just replaced the pan itself.
