A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

i had someone who was going paint my 1981gs450l and he bailed on me. I decide just to rattle can the bike and clean it up for a good daily driver. i already have smaller turn signals for the front and rear. i also have\ a new rear taillight i plan on using. The only thing i can't get over is the look of the front and rear fenders. I am thinking of cutting them and making them shorter and painting them since the chrome has seen better days. I want keep the bike looking like it could have come from the factory with the mods i do, while keeping the stock L seat. any help or pictures is greatly appreciated.

I cut the stock fender with a dremel cutting wheel. Took about 10 minutes. Wish I'd made it longer in front, because it throws rainwater at my knees (I guess I could just turn it around).

If your serious, and want real help with this, start a project thread, in the project section, and those who have built some quality cafe's will chime in. To do it right, it's not as cheap as you think. If your just wanting to hack it up for a look, Home Depot - isle 5 for a sawzall, isle 11 for flat black rattle paint.

i have even more reason to cut my fenders now that i had hail damage to my front fender, tank, and seat. i have to wait until the insurance claim goes through for damages to my truck and bike. I will defiinetely be pulling the fenders and trying to shorten them up now that they have a few dings in them

My front fender has a 3in. crack up the back. I have brazed it, welded it, and JB welded it. within a week ever time the crack comes back. I have considered cutting it down. Now that I see a few cut, I will get to it. Probably tonight... Thanks guys, good thread...
