I know this is a longshot........but anyone fitted this fairing to a GS1100E model? The dimensions listed indicate it should fit (but it will be tight). I am sure I could mod the opening to fit the superbike looking GS 9" headlight. My primary concern is the guage pod clearence (specifically lack of?) Heres the link for the fairing, man it would look sweet if I could get it to fit...

Can't really answer your question, but it seems it's all raelly dependent on the angle of the taper toward the headlight. I have a Wes Cooley-rep fairing and it was also made for a 7" headlight, but the well was deep enough and the taper great enough that I was able to cut it to fit. It still has about an inch well - it doesn't look like this one will give you as much, but it still might work.

This one's a lot pricier, but based on an R90S fairing and made for the 8" headlight. I still haven't seen one of these on a GS1100E, but I considered getting one before I found the WC.

RC, if you go with the Maier. Get it from here. It's a bit cheaper.

I'm interested to hear whether this works, since this is the fairing I think I'm most likely to try to fit to my 1980 GS850GL.

I've decided I am going to have a go at this project. It's a vital component to my GS1100 "superbike look" (even though superbikes were limited to 1000 cc's). I will bump this thread as I make incramental progress. I should start the fairing mod in about a month, first I want to go through the forks, and steering bearings. If the fairing project doesn't work out, there will be a dirt cheap Maier sportbike fairing for sale on Ebay!

Hey Road Clam, were you able to get that fairing to work? I'm looking for an 8" fairing for my 83 GS1100E! Any leads would be greatly appreciated!

Having seen and ridden the "Clam" bike, it, looks perfect.

Take a look at Rich's sig line, his was bike of the month and shows the fairing mounted in his pics.
Very clean job and look.

is that central part of that engine painted or polished alumimum. If painted, what paint did you use?

Yes, I mounted that exact same fairing on my 80 gs850g. I did not use the mounting brackets provided as I did not want to drill holes in the fairing or have exposed bolts. I don't have pics because I am now painting the bike. If it is done soon I will post pics

I"m contemplating on buying a wes cooley replica fairing. I'm concerned about wind buffeting around my helmet as the windshield seems low. I do a lot of highway riding at 120 km. Does anyone have some thoughts on this. Thanks Ted

Rich,

Why R U changing an already good looking fairing ? If you want to off set the cost of the new fairing I would be interested in your old one.

So where can you buy this fairing for an 8" light? All I can find is the 7" version????

You can always fit a 84-85 1150EF fairing onto the GS1100E's.
These are from ebay.

It's a nice fairing and gives you good protection while looking nice.
I have the one from skip/Luke's 1150 and plan on putting it onto my 83 this winter. With the 83 you can mount it directly to the frame with on brackets being made. Simple to make.
I have the side and lower also and it does great. I did take the set-up on a shakedown ride this past spring and worked well.
There seems to be a good amount of these fairings on e-bay now-a-days.

Is that 1150E fairing the same color, starry blue metallic, from the 83 GS1100E's???
