anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

LMAO @Bob - Photos just don't do this bike justice, wife said the same and now she sees it in person and absolutely loves it. I think it's like the BMW K1300 Naked... It grows on you.

Rich- I was looking for an Indian FTR1200 but I have ALWAYS wanted a Vmax 1700... This one was the right price at the right time and I just couldn't say no.

Norm- This is my get on and ride alone bike. No plan to do any big tours on it, not planning on commuting with it, I promised myself when I was debt free and could buy one cash I would... And I did! I have a video in the pan at Jedzmoto.com hoping to get that out sooner vs later... Work is kicking my butt as of recent though. Hope the FJR is doing well for ya!!!

100 miles being as far as it will go before you have to start searching for a gas station ...
I have a custom after market tank on the way! There was some money left in my funds and a custom tank was ordered!.. As stated; hell of a deal. The new tank is a 6.5 gallon tank vs the stock 3.8 so it will yield 150-200 mile practical range. I'll still run my T120 for the big rides and cross country rides I have planned and will plan.

That Triumph is, to me, the coolest bike you've owned.

Holy s#it. Is that bigger tank one of those $1300 wonders from Europe?

The Triumph is the best bike I've ever owned at this point. It is refusing to quite... Should roll over to 52K miles by the end of this week! I have 0 intention to get rid of it.

The one I found is through the Vmax owners group and is a small shop in the Netherlands, great guys! It's was closer to $900 shipped. There is one in England that is $1300 for 5 gallons, I needed at least 2 gallon increase to justify the cost. The added tank still puts me very comfy within my "Vmax" budget. You could almost say I stole my Vmax...

Best,

Best,

You should check availability in Canada...35% for your dollar!

I'm going to install a 1275 kit into the Sportster this summer. In the long run, I may end up buying a Dyna, but for now, I continue to get a kick out of this model.

I like you Justin, you make me look normal. :applause:

V-Max is a cool machine, and a rare one... you won't be seeing yourself at every corner on it. :eagerness:

I did some deep scouring and even across the border I wasn't fining much, the bike is pretty rare and the price is naturally high because of it. I also don't read French too well so the sites I was on were getting frustrating...

I love your Sporty story. The 1275 will really wake the bike up! My XR1200 got 35-40mpg and had like an 80-110 mile range on the tank. I'm going to guess you will get the same mileage after the conversion... Maybe better if your taller than a standard XR on the Primary gearing.

Definitely not! I think I might have one of of a very small number in Vermont. In fact, I've only seen one in Vermont in the last 10 years I can think of... I had the B-King and the Vmax is definitely the better bike. The engine is just AWESOME.

King weirdo here so, I make most look normal ;)

Cheers!

Most of the Sportster owners with the 1275 kit (without radical head work and cams) are getting about 45 mpg. I have the 4.5 gallon tank, and right now I average about 50 mpg.

I washed my bike today (it was a fairly lazy wash though), and went for a quick ride. I didnt have much time as the beginning of the day went for accident and first aid course (as a student this time) and the last half I had to work. But I had an hour inbetween, so I washed the bike (anti-grease, hose, washing spray, heated power hose, wipe of whatevers left). I didn't take any pictures though.

I struggle to get the exhaust clean, it has little black dots (on my car the de-greaser usually melts those sort of?), and its hard to get a good angle to clean the backside... The bottom part of the exhaust seems impossible to get clean too... The front of the engine and the exhaust headers (I think, the part after engine, before bend, lower half) is also challenging me. I do realize I have to get some brushes, and sponges and probably a better shampoo and a fresh "car towel" to dry it off, but cleaning a bike is so much harder than a car. Some places are harder to reach with the hose or pressure washer (back side of muffler for instance).

On my recent trip to ? I saw two guys with their wives roll up on some recent sport bikes (a Yamaha and a Honda, I do not know the exact model), and their bikes were spotless. There weren't even soot on the end of their exhaust. How do they do it? I have been watching turtorials and guides and have tried to read up, but the videos are usually of allready perfectly clean looking bikes... I realize I need to polish the paint and the chrome (or whatever it is), and polish/sand the aluminum covers (need to get rid of those hideous remains of its silver paint (black paint?) too). But it baffels me how a bike can be kept that clean...

If having a clean bike means I have to stop doing things like riding on muddy roads in the rain, I guess Ill pick the muddy roads though. I guess one option is to buy a second bike, and use that only on sunny days, when there is no dust/pollen or anything. But Im not sure how many days that would be... I asked the local car detailing place (the most serious one, Im afraid to leave my baby with the less serious ones), they wanted 450 NOK (about 45 dollars/pounds/euros) and didn't have time for a couple of weeks.

One of my students asked me today: "Is your bike the one you were riding the other day? Thats an old bike, right?" I love that it is so timeless that they get confused about the age.

I read some people use parafin to clean bikes, I think there is a bunch of parafin in the garage, so I could probably borrow a pint if that is what is needed.

They only ride in the summer.

Took my RF600R project out for its inaugural ride this evening... guess I'm going to need a new project now that this is ready. Hmm...

I owned one of these (in red) back in the day, loved it. It's a total nostalgia trip for me to ride one again! :encouragement: And for a vintage 600, it freaking rips! :onthego:

Beautiful night in the hood tonight...first ride on my cooley since putting the Hindle on it from the other cooley I bought.
A buddy is fixing some dents and pin holes in my Kerker...

Dave, the RF is beautiful.
The wide, "futuristic" tail got a lot of grief in the magazines when the 600/900 first came out. I have always liked the look.
