Could I have their contact info?

PS Back in my day, head shops sold black lights, day-glo posters, Indian bidis, bongs, pipes, rolling papers, incense and Zap comics. Am I leaving anything out?

DSC05367.jpg Plenty of knowledgeable machinists across the country that do excellent work -

don't get spooked and don't cut corners when the "freshen up" quote triples due to unforeseen worn/broken parts.

I just got my 80 1100 head back form APE. I originally sent the head to a shop that "specialized" in GS heads. After spending way to much money I learned from APE that the valves were slightly bent and needed grinding. I also had to have it resurfaced due to a low spot between cylinder 2 and 3. Long story short APE has the most affordable prices and they do the best work. Not to mention their customer service is A+. I also had them build a GSXR 1100 head that I am very happy with.
(Ignore the missing hardware)

What was the name of the shop that overcharged you, so we know to stay away from them?
Ray.

Eric has been banned yet again.

Most of the unsocial behavior we see comes from the Off Topic section. It is rare that one person exerts a negative influence in all corners of the GSR forum--OT, tech threads, travel threads, general discussion.

We all know that he will be back. Please keep watch and report when you spot him.

banned for posting a pic of a messy shed ?

kinda puzzled by that...

Eric has a a long checkered history here.Banned and let back on 4 times. As much as he does have good and helpful advice he is a PITA if you don't do what he thinks is right.Way more to it than 1 pic.

Agree. The dude had a LONG history of ruffling feathers. He was on his best behavior since being allowed back this last time but was steeply degressing leading up to this latest snafu. Very sad. He seems to love GS bikes, but just can't seem to suppress his tendency to insult people he has issues with.

Ray, the shop was Ward Performance.. Now, I'm not saying the shop was horrible or never does good work! I'm just saying that my experience wasn't the best. They do offer great service and I've seen a few pro race teams advertise this shop.

I basically paid over 1K for a guides and a valve job. I called and spoke with them a few times about how I really wanted some portwork done. Not a CNC full port job, but something where I am going to see some power gains with new pistons and a valve job. Well they stressed to me that they usually do a lot of Busa's.. I think they mentioned that three times. Basically I think he was trying to hint to me that they don't do hand porting anymore everything is CNC now. So he said they would "clean" up the ports by the seats. They basically took a dremel with a sanding attachment and took away about 5mm of the casting seams by the seats. Something I could of done at home that takes about 20 min. For what I paid I could of sent it over to APE got new guides, springs, seals, valve job, and full portwork.. :(

Again, I'm not trying to bash the shop I just lost some money on the deal!

Sorry to hear that Neal. Rick is a pretty good guy & I have done business with him for a long time. I build engines & build a lot of heads each year so usually only getting some parts from him. I met him when he was still at V&H, before I worked in R&D there. I charge 400 for a street port on a GS head but there is other work needed to go along with it. A valve job, guides if needed, valve seals, valve springs usually also because if you do porting you will want cams. That's usually why we do bronze guides at the same time & it all adds up. Let me know if I can ever help you out. A 1260-1400cc street motor is a BLAST!! Lol!
Ray.

I called them once. They are on my backyard. Was super excited to send work to them. Tell I spoke to Rick. His exact words "sounds like a pain in the ass" I work on new stuff and the new 2 valve set ups. Ward is not into the old bike stuff any more.

Ward like's the HD money too...........
Bob carpenter will take your money for working on the old stuff i bet..even though he likes the big triumphs these days.

That is my garage Eric Bang. Have you EVER done business with me? No you haven't. Have you been kicked off this forum 3 times before for this type of crap, attacking people you have never even met before? Yes, yes you have. I believe you are on your 4th user name on this site now so PLEASE keep acting like this so you can be banished forever. You need to stop trying to trash people you have never even met, let alone never done business with or ever been "ripped off" by.
Ray.

Where did he get that picture from? I took that back in 2008 when I had Ray put my cylinders on.

I think it was Ichiban Moto, with a $300 fee for 'shop supplies'.
LOL nice!

My 2 cents is Eager Engines in Castleton Vermont. They did the port, Polish and valve job with Cam install on my EJ25D heads for my Subaru. For a N/A it pulled like a mother. Very good work and it wasn't too much. But never had any MC engine work sent out. However they do MC work. They build allot of the VT car engines that race at the Devils Bowl.

Just an FYI.

Very surprised. Very hard to believe that the head we had in here came from Ward, or did I misunderstand the post.
