DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Anyone up for an Oil Thread ? Or oil additives?

I have been reading a bit about our current oil options for these old machines.
It seems due to catalytic converters we are seeing reduced wear additives in the oil itself ...?
Like zinc which is a good element for protecting against wear..?

There is a product called ZDDP Plus -- ( https://zddplus.com/ )

This promises to increase the wear capability of our engien oil specifically where we need it most -- cam shaft surfaces..

Anyone have any experience with this product ?

:-\\\ :snowman:  :hypnotysed:

I love watching this guy, He does videos of oil treatments. I've actually ran this product in an old GS 450 with weak compression on 1 cylinder and it did bring Compression back.

Fun to soak up time with these videos.

HAHA

good thread, better than politics. I used "auto-rx" in a 67 honda dream I picked up. I think it worked....cleaned things up enough to reveal 2 broken rings in a cylinder....bike puked out a significant amount of oil before I disassembled it.... I will say don't dare question whether it works or not in the auto-rx or the bobistheoilguy forums, they will ban you and treat you like you peed on their mom, sheesh, thank god this forum is a bit more polite than most.

My grandfather sluiced out diesel oilpans with kerosene suring oil changes.
He also rubbed wd40 on his joints

I picked up some Mystic semi-synthetic diesel oil a while back because it's supposed to have a healthy dose of ZDDP. Shell Rotella is another excellent diesel oil that's very popular in GS bikes. I'd stick to something tried and true and avoid additives.

ZDDP is a good thing for any engine. I avoid any oil that has less than about 1200 ppm of ZDDP.

its hell on cats apparently

whats the snake oil sludge clearing goop? Any quality oil changed at sufficient intervals will clean sludge from and engine.
