    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Is this normal that the crank bearings seem stiff like this? They turn easily enough, but don't really "spin freely"... A couple turn more than the others (like the one on the right side). This is after cleaning and oiling the crank... I'm assuming that the races popping off (very end of video) is normal.

If these are shot, how hard is it to replace them? Any Suzuki "Special Tools" involved? Not much in the manual...

 
Are the bearings smooth to turn ( no roughness or gitches) ? if you have oiled them they will not spin as freely as a dry bearing there will be some drag.
 
Crank bearings are roller bearings, so the race should be off for an efficient cleaning. As was mentioned, when turning the race with your finger, it should be smooth, not rough.

Replacing them is a job for a qualified machine shop.
 
Thanks guys for all the quick replies. Really helped put me at ease.

They were spinning smoothly. No rough spots or glitches, just seemed really stiff. Just for a sanity check, I popped the races off and cleaned them again. They spun wild and free. Oiled back up, and they were stiff like before. I guess like fastbysuzuki said, it was just drag from being oiled already.

I'm calling it good. :peaceful:

I've had a few of these "is this normal" threads lately. I'm pretty confident wrenching on bikes, but I've never been this deep in an engine before, and I'm trying to do everything right so I don't have to do it again (at least with this bike).

For Suzuki two stroke crank bearings, sometimes soaking them in diesel fuel, flushing the fuel out, and re-oiling with bring back bearings.
