A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Argh. Headlight and Taillight Only Work Sporadically

They just cut out randomly.

It seems like it may be vibration related. The headlight will flick on for a second when I'm shifting. I can sometimes get the light to come on momentarily if I'm stopped and I turn the bars all the way to either side, but if I straighten them out the headlight shuts off again. I can also get the light to flicker on sometimes by bouncing on the seat. The strange part is that I can't get the headlight to come on by jiggling any of the wires coming from the gauge cluster or the headlight bucket.

The taillight only seems to work when the headlight does.

I checked and cleaned all the connections when I installed the wiring harness Chuck sent me, but I'll go over them again. In the meantime, any thoughts on what the culprit may be would be greatly appreciated.

Check to see if your fuse isn't properly inserted...it's possible it might be coming out or the slot is so dirty it's not making a proper connection.

Wire

Wire

If you can make it go off or on by moving your handlebars, it almost has to be a wire. The wiring bundle that comes out under your headlamp moves slightly every time you turn your bars from side to side. You should be able to easily isolate the problem with a decent wiring schematic and a multimeter (or even without a multimeter).

It looks like your bike only has one fuse so I don't think that could be the problem. There is a ground wire that goes between the headlight and tail light that grounds to the frame (I don't know where). It should be easy to find that and check it out. Also, your connections could be really good but if you have a broken wire, that could easily be the problem.

Well, I cleaned up all the bullet connectors all grounds again and that seems to have fixed the problem.

I'm not sure exactly where the problem was, but at least I can see and be seen, so I'm happy and safe once again.
