A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I don't think I am past 1/4 turn of the throttle.
Am I on the pilot jet or on the needles?

83 850g.
Slight surge at constant speed above 3K rpm.
Great under load and very slight popping on decel.
I think I am lean but not sure if it is the pilot jet or needle.

Is your exhaust system sealed?

1 part pilot circuit plus 2 parts needle circuit shaken not stirred.
Anything over idle is mostly needle until you hit 3/4 throttle and up is main.

Not quite true , Mr Bond. :-\\\ I vote at 50/50 too. But it depends on the state of tune of the engine. Lower CR's and poorly timed engines could equate to 1/3 to 2/3 values as you have hinted at. ;)

you are running on a combo of 2 circuits

the bypass circuit (fueled by the pilot jet and pilot air bleed)
beginning of the needle jet/jet needle and main emulsion tube

Raise the needle or go up one size on pilot jet?

Bike runs great up to ~ 3000 rpms and under load even if it is slight.
Worst when holding steady speed on very slight decline. No issues on inclines.

Valves synced, carbs synced.
air screws out 3 turns.

Are you running a stock intake and exhaust? You really shouldn't need to increase any of your internal carb component sizes if you are.

Bike came to me w/ aftermarket mufflers, stock intake and a really messed up dynojet jet kit installed VERY wrong.

I have stock jets and needles back in.

I have a feeling the free flow exhaust may be making the bike lean.

fixed!

raised the needles 2 notches.

I think the PO just blindly put in the largest jets and needles from some dynojet kit. Not sure if the kit is even for the GS 850.

I think I have it back to stock minus the needles. Pics of the stock needles I've seen didn't show the stocks as having slots for raising and lowering the needles. The needles in my bike has 6 or 7 slots.

Gracias all

Stock needles in my GS didnt have notches either.

Glad to know you got it corrected with the needles, just as many suspected.
