    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Authentic Engine Paint ?

I'm in the process of rebuilding my GS1000G. I just had the head , barrels and cam cover bead blasted in preparation for painting. My question is, what engine paint should I use to get the closest finish to the Suzuki original? Anyone here had any success with a particular product?

Suzuki did not paint the head and cylinder barrels on the GS bikes as near as I can tell. They look like raw bead blasted finish to me.

The upper crankcase half and cam cover was painted silver, and the side covers were clear coated after polishing. Low crankcase half, oil filter housing, and bottom sump cover were raw aluminum as well.

This is not to say that you should not paint them if you want. From what I've read, the PJ1 paint is pretty decent.

Edit: Took a closer look at the head and cylinders on my 550 and frankly, I'm not so sure now whether or not they are painted. bwringer says they ARE painted...and frankly, I can't refute.

850G, 1000G, and 1100G engines were definitely painted, including the cylinder head and cylinders.

79-82 were silver, and 83 were black.

PJ1 makes the correct colors -- they sell a 500 degree Suzuki Silver and Satin Black that look perfect and seem to work very well, even with somewhat lazy surface prep.

Z1 Enterprises sells these paints for a few bucks less than others. I needed about 2.5 cans of Satin Black to paint my 850G engine.

Edited my post after taking a closer look at my 550. Could very well be painted, plus bwinger is "da man" so lets go with his answer. :) Painted.
 
VHT universal aluminim does the job on the engine and try to bake it in a oven at 180 degres F to get a near bulet proof finish. Careful when heating the barrels as some of the sleeves tend to "pop" out so just push them back down and use weight to hold them there while the barrels cool. The lower half of the cases are not painted as standard as far as i have seen.
