Back from the 1/8 mile Drag Strip

Ok with 10 inch struts on the rear and the front end straped down my best 60 FT was 1.73, 330FT was 4.81 and ET was 7.47 using a 12 year old 120mm street tire. The bike did not wheelie at all, it did spin the tire in first gear coming right out of the hole and second gear doing 50 mph once. That got my attention when the bike just moved to the left about 5 feet spining the tire before regaining traction. I think I need a drag tire now. I did install the K&N jet kit but still had problems with it. It did'nt matter if I installed 138, 132, 114 or 110 main jets and with the needle clip at the top or bottom the bike would bogg down around 7000 RPM. The only thing is the K&N jets are alittle taller than my old jets. Maybe they are just to close to the bottom of the fuel bowl blocking the flow of fuel. SO in went my old jets with no numbers on them. So after 18 runs tonight I'am happy with it, Its running faster everytime I take it out.

Jake

you bogged because your filters were restricting the air install the jet kit with the biggest jets and set the needle about midway then run the bike without the filters and see what happens. i had the same problem because i was useing cheap fitlers, i had to go to k & n pods and everything was ok. by the i don't know anything about draging but those sound like pretty good times con grads i guess :?

Glad to hear your sticking with it and making some progress. I had posted a link to a rear wheel on eBay. I think it sold for just over $100.
So, did they give you any trouble at the track with the straps?

I've been down that track about two hundred times and they know me with my helmet on or off. When I do a burnout the tree starter guy always looks back at me to see who's making all that noise. You gota love the V&H Pro Pipe at 10K. As for the strap they did'nt care, but I'am going to drop the sliders and install about 4 inches of steel pipe to drop the front end so I wont need a strap anymore. I think I can break into 1.60's with a good launch.

Thanks,
Jake

I'am running K&N pods now and have the same problem with them. It doesn't matter if I run the bike with or without filters the problem is still there at the same RPM. I think the jets are just to tall reducing the flow of fuel at the bottom of the bowl.

Thanks,
Jake

My GS has a sputter right at 6k. If I take the air cleaners (K&N Pods) off, it goes away....

I usually just slide the clutch out far enough that I don't hit that rpm point as I go through the gears.

Trying to run consistent, I have mid to low 1.80 sixty footers, but if I want to run fast, I can go 1.7's no problem.

The bike runs 7.20's and 7.30's in the eighth @ 102 mph. No strap, no strut, but a 4" arm, on a 180 street tire.

I have a Star pipe on mine, and everyone tells me it is the loudest thing they have ever heard!
