    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Bandit Swingarm Dry Fit - Part II

Well like I've said before bike was rear ended memorial day causing to have to switch from GS1100EZ frame to an 83 GS1100ED frame.

Parts have been powder coated and I took some pics tonight as I dry fit the Bandit swingarm back into the frame. PS for our Florida, Texas and southern California members that's a snow shovel in the top pic. Just so your not wondering.

Had a spare Bandit arm so just laid one on the other to make sure it didn't get bent. Looks fine to naked eye.

Had to make some minor mods to the chain bumper do to differences from 82 to 83 frames. 83 Peg mounts project deeper by about 1/4". Just used a utility knife to carve off a little more rubber. Moves up and down smoothly now.

That arm has about 7K miles on it since it was modified for use in the GS (i.e 7K miles before being rear ended)

Pulled the top hats out and they look perfect. No galling. My inner top hats were machined from a block of brass we had laying around. I think the silver top hats are the stock GS pieces.

Kudos to Katman for blazing this trail for us.


Since I'm dealing with just about every nut and bolt in the chassis I've been cleaning and lubing as I go.
 
Looks great sir, encouraging to see the lack of wear on katman's pivot bushings..thanks for the clarification on the red half barrel looking thing attached to a broom stick..:p

Had a little Doh! moment when I noticed that the post on the forward half of the rear fender (shift side) didn't have the corresponding metal tab with hole and grommet on the frame (you can kinda see a little of it left above the post on the back side of the frame tube). I then remembered the seller of the frame telling me this as we were parting ways and thinking no problem easy fix to tack weld before powder coat. Then I forgot about it till after powder coat.

Plan now will be to adhesively bond on a small strip of black metal or plastic with rubber grommet. Will use some 3M VHB double sided tape to adhere the strip to the back side of the frame tube. With the frame as clean as it is now it should stick well and it isn't really much weight it will be supporting. There's another place further up and back on the fender where I might be able to add a low visibility second back up clip to the frame.

Fuse Panel is powder coated as well, hoping that doesn't effect grounds. It was charging well before the incident (Thanks Duaneage). Lettering on solenoid correspond to letters added to the wires as they were removed.

Tomorrow I would like to get rear wheel, chain and rear brake all installed with front forks, front wheel and side stand so its at least standing upright. Next step is then to start installing the wire harness.
