Bars....and not the ones you drink in...

I am using Daytona Bars on my 550 and they work very well and seem to compliment the overall look very well, too.

Replaced mine last fall. Found them on E-Bay from a vendor in (I think) New York who specialises in bars and carries them in every style you can imagine. I think I remember paying about $20 (plus S&L, of course) for a set of black, standard touring bars. He has good info on rise, pull-back and comparisons on different styles, shapes, dimensions, etc. I can try to find his info if you are interested.

When I did mine, I also picked up a pair of risers that basically gave me an extra inch of rise and about the same in pull-back. HUGE difference in how upright it made me on the bike. Very comfortable. Did mirror extenders / risers as well. The view rear-ward is completely unobstructed by my shoulders. By the way, mine is an 83 GS1100.

One word of caution: if you change bars or add risers, your brake line especially and your clutch cable impose limits on how much you can rise / pull back before you will need to replace those as well.

Are Clubmans (Brand?) cafe stlye bars? We dont have them over here...

Have a look at this. I found this helpful last fall when I replaced mine.

Clubman is listed at the top. If you can't quite read the descriptions on the pic, they are as follows:

a Clubman

b Drag Bar

c Daytona

d G.P. Touring

e Superbike

f European

g LTD 3

h Nighthawk

Thats a great help, Thanks!
What did you put on yours?

Going by the pic it looks like I have Daytonas already on my bike....They look the same size/angle etc.

But I think I will go for drag or clubman type, my only concern with the cafe style is the handling and the riding position, though I only plan to use the bike the odd day as a hobby, I have a car now to use for work.

I went with the General Purpose Touring. With the risers I am at the limits of what the stock front brake line can handle. I am almost upright in the saddle when I ride, which is what I had aimed for.

The drag bars should work fine with no mods needed, since the rise and pull-back are less than the stock GP Touring bar. However, you will be MUCH less upright with them. Over any distance you would likely find it literally a pain in the neck (and back).

I remembered the vendor on Ebay I bought them from. Look up Sportingforless under E-bay stores. He has good info on how to measure your existing bars for width, centre width, rise, and pull-back. You can figure out from there which may work without having to replace your brake lines, etc.

Are you going full Cafe Racer on that bike? Bar-end mirrors, etc.?

FZ1 bars are an option...:D

Yep...I like the look of those...

Im not sure if I will go total cafe with this bike...The only thing I dont like the look and feel of is the bars, so something like the ones below might fix that
Thanks for all the help!

i got drag bars they look like the last pic on this page. they come in 3 diffent degree bends (not sure on the degree's) i went with the middle degree bends will post a pic when i get one. the only thing i would add is like a 1inch or 2 risers

You put them on at the wrenching party at Redneck's, right? I don't recall seeing a post about them.
What do you think, better? Should be lower, higher, what?

I've got an 550M I'm thinking of putting clubmans on.

Yea after the stainless steel lines in the front I swapped my bars for the Daytonas. I like them a lot, didnt have stock "L" bars on at the time. Only issue is they are a bit skinnier than what I had and makes the mirrors not as useful. Still see my elbows a bit to much... but the lines worked okay without any major changes.

I started with the stock bars on my 1100EZ, installed the Super Bike bars but flipped which to me was comfortable and have since installed the Clubman bars which are real nice, the Clubman bars are a really good alternative to the clip-ons.

Anyone got a pic of clubmans or drag bars on a stardard enough 750?

Any chance you can post of a photo of this... toying with the same idea!!

I cant say that adding Daytonas bettered my handling per say but it did make my ride more comfortable. The buck-horns on my 650 straight sucked. And of course adding a bit of weight in the ends helped with the vibration so...

As I said in my PM, when I get home at the end of the month I can take more specific pictures but in the interim here's some pictures that'll give you an idea.

Of course this first one is with the original bars.

This shot shows the "superbike bars" installed flipped

In this picture note the location of the turn signals in relation to the flipped "superbike bars." In order to install the Clubman bars the turn signals need to be moved.
picture.php

As you can see the turn signals were relocated and mounted to a new bracket that attaches to the lower fairing mounts.

This is the best picture I have on my computer right now that shows the Clubman bars installed without the fairing.

This picture tells the story of why I had to move the turn signals, notice the clutch lever in relation to the fairing, this is exactly where the turn signals were originally mounted.

I love the end product using the Clubman bars. Whether you use the Clubman bars or clip-ons the pit falls are the same, the signals become an obstacle but it's just an opportunity to personalize your bike.
