    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Battery bubbling on a tender after 36+ hours of charging

so i got a battery tender jr and i topped up my battery for my 1100 and it worked great, but i've just recently brought my "parts" bike down here and threw the tender on that bike's battery for a few days and it started bubbling after a while and said it was charging for the entire time (like 3 days) after the battery started bubbling on the 3rd day i disconnected it because i figured it wasn't working correctly.

so i'm asking if the bubbling is normal on a tender jr and how long would it take to charge a completely dead battery with a jr tender? or is my battery just hooped

i'm going through the process of evaluating whether or not its worth it to try to restore that bike and having a battery is crucial because i haven't heard/seen the engine fire while cranking over.
 
Overnight should be plenty of time. The battery may not be holding a charge ??
 
actually i just remembered i had a multimeter and i measured the battery and it says it has a voltage of 12.3ish which is regular voltage for a battery...
just wondering if because the battery was totally discharged if that would have made it take forever to charge up again?

also the battery bubbles a little bit whenever its moved/tilted, thats not really normal is it?
 
sounds like a shot battery
bet it doesnt hold the charge well - as a quick test you can turn the headlight on and see what happens
 
I'd suspect that this battery that keeps your tender on higher charge rate, has a shorted cell. A lead-acid battery (assumed) will show 2.1 to 2.3 volts per cell fully charged after sitting, and as high as 2.3 to 2.5 volts per cell just coming off of charge. Short 1 cell and you can see that the rest of the cells are continuously trying to be overcharged - which causes gassing (your bubbling) and a battery that won't have good performance.

Research load testing for this type of battery to understand this more. Research plate shedding and other causes of shorted cells in a lead-acid battery to understand how this occurs if you're interested.
 
Is your batter tender the type that auto shuts off??

I always rember trickle chargers still bubbling all winter causing us to monitor the water kevel

none of my battery minders have auto shut down. I leave them on one or two days then remove them.
 
yeah my tender went into maintain mode with my battery from my 1100 and worked fine, but i think the battery is probably just shot, i'll throw it in my bike when i get home tonight and see how fast it dies. I'll just grab a new one tonight after testing this one.
I was thinking batteries where like $90 instead of $40.

the less expensive batteries do not have a [lace for the low water probe if your bike has one of those idiot lights.
I converted to gel and my red light is on all the time
 
yeah on my 1100 my red light is on all the time, i'm going to totally do away with it once i get to overhauling the dash on it, i just don't really see the point of having it in the first place anyway
