    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Battery not charging (GS550E 1980)

Just de oiled my hands and searched for prices on here in uk.
About the same price as yours for a standard one - an Electrex - 66?
So not so bad. Do i need one for 150? - not really as that last one lasted 65,000 miles.

@Gorminder - They are poor as you say - i will post the stats for
the new working one (off my old engine) as im interested what the stats are when its working.
The stats posted (in your post) are of the knackered stator that can run the bike but the battery will be discharged
needing a bump start always. It also seemed to start blowing fuses.

The stator from my old engine works a treat but i am ready now
to buy a new one .....
p.s someone said my stator not great and not good if i use a "shunt" RR ? Whats shunt or do you mean Sh*t" ? lost in translation .....

you need to read the write up I posted before

the evidence is settled.....a series unit is the way to go

UKJules, have you done any of the searching on this forum as I suggested or even bothered to click on the link that Tom203 posted on here showing you the differences? How about doing some of the work yourself instead of expecting everyone to spoon feed you the information. There is no loss in translation here - it is SHUNT and SERIES - SERIES is better for your electrical system than the SHUNT style. Go do some research

@ Cowboy.

Dont ever comment on my posts again you disgusting troll. Do you know what a forum is for you prat ?
Debate !
Dont ever bother me again you are worthless to me.

To all real bikers who are interested ill be doing analysis on my old GS 550 engine.

ukjules, you are out of line old kiddie. The problems you are having are common and the fixes well known. Knowledgeable people are willing to help but you're off on your own path... good luck. Do yourself a favour and spend a couple of weeks reading about your bike on the forum, this is the way.

Talk about an ungrateful piece of....just because you're told to do some work you want to treat some of us like that? Fine. You have fun trying to fix stuff you clearly don't understand or want to unless someone tells you the answers. I feel sorry for you

Cowboy you havnt helped me at all ! Not in any way.
All you can do is bat off questions in an ignorant rude way.
I told you not to post but you cant help yourself.

You're no biker buddy ! You are a troll and I consider
people like you vermin. You're a sorry state.

UKJules, you speak to people like that on here and nobody is going to bother helping you out anymore.

Dont think that your "analysis" will be helping out anybody because, as mentioned before, there are countless threads on this forum relating to the issues you are encountering, and they have already been explained, analized, and rectified by people with a lot more knowledge, experience and manners than you have.

Good luck sorting out your issues on your own.

Yeah, that's it. Was about to help, but now my ignore list just got another entry.
