    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Battery Sensor Dilemma

I have done a search on the problem with replacement batteries and the battery idiot light remaining lit. I understand that. But this is what is confusing me.

My old battery and new battery is exactly the same model and manufacturer (I checked this 3 times to make sure). I ordered the exact one as before because with the old battery, the idiot light came on and then went off when the bike started. But now the new battery, the light stays on!!! I believe I hooked everything back exactly the same.

I doubt that my R/R went out exactly at the time I replaced my battery so I am at a loss on why this would happen.

For your info, the old and new battery doesn't have a sensor in any cell even though the model designation is -BS. My bike is a 83 GS1100e.

The GS series was the only bike made with a battery fluid level sensor.
So with the age of these bikes the battery manufacturers have made level sensor equippedbatteries obsolete. Remove the bulb in the dash, and check your batery levels about mointhly.

Just cut the sensor off the end of the wire. Crimp a eye type wire end on in place of the sensor, and connect it to the positive side of the battery . Light goes out, and stays out.
FYI Walmart sells batteries with the sensor hole for about $35

Thats what I did on my 82, but John says his 83 had or has no sensor. Ya got me. Calling all 83 11KEs.
 
My 83 has the sensor, albeit non functioning and lighting up the night sky whenever I'm riding it at night! I've found the wire, just haven't gotten around to connecting it to a + feed.........but I will, if it doesn't burn out first! :-D
 
Remove the probe, clean it good to remove corrosion from it, make sure the battery has enough water in it to reach the sensor. If youd rather correct it than rig it you can get New at OEM www.bikebandit.com.
