A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Before I start clutch work....

This one?
And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough . . . the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go! C'mon!

Excellent! I'm a little embarrassed to tell you what I actually had in mind: "Start drinking. Heavily."

But I like yours better. Remember: it wasn't over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.

Thanks Rob.

As problem go, mine hardly compares to the hell you're going through. At least I can look at my bike. Get well soon, my friend.

I might just do both. Drink Heavily, and get going. I'm just completely gutted at the moment. Will probably start the tear down tomorrow. I've always told myself if I ever have to pull the engine, I might just do a full restoration down to the frame. We'll see. If the engine is too far gone, I may look for another 750 16v engine, or 1100 (I think I've read that it'll fit).

Dang that's a bummer, & just when things seemed to be going great, but could be a blessing in the long run. Great time to get a good roller bearing crankshaft & rid of the plain bearing crankshaft of the 16V 750. If you can find a pretty good old 16V 1100 eng., "83" if possible, it should be a great upgrade. Plus an eng. change should be way easier than a complete eng tear-down & repair. I've had 2 8V GS1000's & it was a blessing, for both, when I got 16V GS1100 engs. onto them. Hate it for you, but just try to be optimistic. Good luck.

 ..... . . . . . . . . I think and the RPMs shot up way past redline, . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Started the bike, awful rattle ensued. ...

I am so afraid that I?m going to have to pull the head and inspect. I think I just killed my engine.:frown-new:
...
. . . . . . . . . . when I tried to start it, engine cranked but sounded gutless.
.
.

Yikes !

THe best thing you can/could do was to post about it here.
ANd let some of the knowledgeable gear heads see it. (I am not referring to myself.)
With their knowledge and your wrenching, a lot of good can happen.

YOur comment about cranking but sounding gutless, makes me think to ask if you have done anything to check compression? Either with a gauge, or the ol' thumb over most of the sparkplug hole trick.

Ah man! Sorry to hear this, Rich. You can fix it though, no worries! :encouragement:

This is just a setback, not the end! Keep that in mind.

You got this!
