Bent Valves

After taking having compression issues, and lots of investigation, I found that I have a bent intake valve. I have not been able to find many good replacements. Does anybody have any good ways to either fix this issue or have a good place to purchase new valves from?

His earlier posts said it is a gs650... Hopefully he has at least pulled cam cover to make sure that the suspect valve has some clearance before suspecting a bent valve.

I have a few 550 heads I'll sell cheaper than a set of valves from Suzuki. They share common valves.

Sorry if I wasn't clear it is a gs650g 1981. Cam cover pulled and head pulled, valve has been removed. Just need a replacement. I have seen some people "straightening" bent valves. Has anyone tried this? obviously I would like to simply replace the valve but man they are kind of pricey.

$26 shipped for a brand new valve.

Of course you could order from a Suzuki dealership if you would rather but it will cost you about $10 more.

It's easy to find Suzuki parts, just go to one of the dozens of different online sources and look up the part number(s). I usually check ebay to see if there are any NOS parts laying around for cheap too.

You are going to need gaskets and seals to go with the valve. I'm going to let you do that research on your own for that. Purchase OEM Suzuki gaskets if you value oil tightness.

Better question why is the valve bent?

Thats the question... No damage to the piston. It is bent only about a half millimeter too. I really want to find out what could have bent it before I replace it.

Thanks Nessism. I may just buy one of those. Are the non-OEM gaskets really that bad? the OEM ones seem to be like 5 times the cost and are harder to find. (except like partzilla).

This is the only one I have found that seems reasonably priced. Not even sure if this would fit my gs650g either.

OEM gaskets can still be bought from the Suzuki dealerships but you're better off walking in to a store with the part number in hand as many don't care to look for them properly. Most of us will typically use Parts Outlaw in Florida or Z1 Enterprises in New York for much of that stuff though I'll go to my local dealer too if I'm in a hurry for parts. All parts have to come from the warehouses as no one keeps them in stock. Consequently, it will take up two weeks for the order to be delivered to the dealer and then sent to you (about a week if ordering from a local dealer that you can pick up from).

Also, keep in mind that the OEM gaskets were made for your bike specifically and not as an aftermarket attempt. Yes they may be more expensive but in the long run you'll be able to get a better quality product for less money than paying multiple times for something that doesn't last as long.
