I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Watching all these sets of Mikuni's on ebay lately.....what is considered the best set for a mildly modded gs1100e? 33mm? 36mm? Hopefully one set up can be successfully used for pods and pipe all the way up to cams/piston/pods/pipe set up with just a jet change??

the answer changes based on how you use the bike, and what you want from the bike.

Generally the smaller diameter carbs give better throttle response at the lower RPM, and have very little performance loss in the mid-range. Where the larger carbs come in is high rpm. If you ride the bike hard and often pull to the red line, then 36mm or larger would be a good choice IF you have the engine / exhaust set for high performance. Otherwise, I would stay with 34mm or smaller.

Using too large of a carb on the bike will cause very poor throttle response at lower RPM.

The best compromise ive found for road use is the 36mm carbs ;)

34's work well if you dont want a top end rush & 40's are just to big to get any real low down grunt + can be a bitch to get set up

hope it helps :)

I have the 36mm GSXR carbs setup on my 1100e with a 4-1 and pods and I didn't notice ANY low end drop in power. In fact I'd say I gained a little. But there is definitely a bigger notice in power increase up top and they aren't the easiest things to get tuned right. If it helps, I'm running a 140 main, needle 3 from the bottom and a 32.5 pilot about 2.75 turns out.

Boy thanks

Thats the kind of info I need:

Are those 140's DJ or Minuki?

Given this as a starting point, what do you think my biggest problem will be to adding 1989 36mm CV flatslides?

I currently have on my GS1100ED, 4:1 Yoshi, 0.340 Web cams, Accel coils, currently running 1150 36mm carbs with 138 DJ's

Will have 1166 kit soon.

140 mikunis. I don't think you'll have too much trouble. My biggest issue was that I went from a totally stock bike to the carbs, pipes, pods and coils in 1 big leap so the only baseline I had for tuning was the stock setup. I got a lot of my info from RacingJake and he was pretty dead nuts on. I don't think the 1166 kit will mess with your jetting too much. If anything maybe 1 step up on the main I would guess - but I've heard that sometimes you don't need to change anything. I'm running stock cams so your jetting won't be the same as mine - but it shouldn't be more than 1 or 2 steps off at most.

Make sure you set the float height correctly or you'll pour fuel out the back of the carbs. Sometimes the idle adjuster hits your cam chain tensioner. Mine does, but I left it as is and it hasn't caused any problems whatsoever. I haven't noticed any ill effects from adding the carbs and it definetly gives it a boost in power and quicker throttle response.
