DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

what battery has everyone had the best luck with, tried to search but only came up with walmart for cheap!

going in a 1982 gs 1100e

Not cheap, but I sprung for a Westco gel cell a few months ago. I'm on the road alot and don't like leaving battery tenders hooked up. I got the gel cell so I can get away with long down periods without having the battery go bad on me. It goes for weeks with very little discharge, maybe a few percent.

I get the cheap walmart lead acid type, Makes It easer to just replace it every 2-3 years

Regardless of battery (I'm partial to Yuasa sealed myself) the most important thing to make the battery last is to make sure the charging system is working at peak performance. One dirty connector can drastically shorten the life expectancy of even the best gel battery.

Battery...

Battery...

Im running a Odessey PC310 without any problems yet...It was a little expensive at $90 but its a sealed unit that you can mount anywhere except upside down; plus its much smaller than the stock unit; and half the weight of a regular batt. Almost 6lbs lighter. I relocated mine to inside the tail section and theres still some room in there for a tool kit and a few candy bars...:-D

I'm running very happily on an AGM (Advanced Glass Mat) sealed battery that ran me between $50 and $60 and, like a gel cell, handles longer down times without losing much capacity.

I believe I purchased the "Big Crank" from www.Batterymart.com, and they were VERY helpful when I had an initial problem with the battery. They did some extensive testing/renewing and I have had no problems at all since then... I highly recommend them, both for price AND service -- good people!!

Regards,

I Have The Yuasa And It's A Decent Battery. One Question Though...is It Common For The Battery To Lose Charge If Sitting For A Few Weeks Without Starting? I Have A Battery Tender But Don't Use It All The Time. Should I? I Have Checked My Entire Charging System And Everything Checks Out Ok.

Yes ... it is normal for a battery to lose its charge over time if it's not in regular use. The guys at Batterymart that were so helpful told me that 1% a day is not uncommon. One of the things I like about the AGM battery I now have is that it seems much more resistant to losing its charge as quickly as a common lead acid battery.

I DID purchase a quality electronic battery charger/maintainer to hedge my bet, but didn't use it for about two months after the last ride. My bike turned over with no problems at all this weekend. In the past, I would have experienced a slower than normal crank with an older style battery after so much time without a charge.

Regards,

Holy smokes, go AGM and you'll never go back. I also bought the Bigcrank from Batterymart.com and highly recommend it. Good luck.
