If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Best looking gauges?

Yeah, pics please!

Did they come with a length or wire pre-soldered to the leads and heatshrink-wrapped? If so, they might already have resisters on 'em, under the heatshrink.

The ones I got at Radio Shack had lenses built in and resistors already set. Just drilled the holes and dropped them in.

For those of you who really want to go cheap on the LED's...You can buy single LEDs, for like pennies, and resistors for the same from any electronics supply house. I actually requested samples one time from Fowler, and they sent me 5 ultrabright LED's, free of charge. To determine your resistance, go to this site.

http://led.linear1.org/1led.wiz

You put in the LED's characteristics, and its spits out the proper resister to use. Been a while since I've played with em, but with a little reading, you'll be amazed at how many ideas you'll have for LED lighting.

Alright, here are the MikesXS gauges installed. _Very_ pleased with the result! Cool blue backlight glow, eh? And the idiot lights seem to be some of those intense super-bright LEDs.

To convert to a single blinker indicator I used two 12v zener diodes to isolate the left and right sides (so the whole bike doesn't blink).

Due to laziness the gear shift indicator has been eliminated. Also they haven't been road tested (swing arm laying on the garage floor...), so here's hoping the ratios are correct!

(The camera flash is not very flattering of the general dirtyness of the bike...)

Those are nice! I've got have a mind to rip apart my old set of gages, and measure them up. I can autocad a new face, print it on mylar, and come up with something cool. Wish I had a 140 Mph speedo though.

Mikesxs gauges

Mikesxs gauges

Anybody actually use or test these. I am getting rid of my cluster but still want the idiot lights. Tell me if they work!!!!

Thanks

Follow up on the MikesXS gauges...

The tach is the wrong ratio and reads way high. Need a 1.4 tach, not a 1.5 for the GS. Speedo appears to be accurate though.

The only other thing is the LED idiot lights (built into the speedo): while appearing almost too bright in the dark, are easily overpowered by daylight and you can't hardly tell when they're on.

But they do look *very* sharp and I'm overall pleased with the result. Maybe some day I'll get the proper ratio tach, but I judge RPM more by feel and sound anyway...

Where would I find a tach of the right ratio. Do they have one that matches???

I think JC Whitney has the same style tach in 1.4...? Also the Old Bike Barn links posted earlier in this thread appear to have the same style.

here is what I have found...

here is what I have found...

I've done quite a bit of research and this is what I have come up with for Suzuki gauge replacements.

Tach: Suzuki's use a 1:4 ratio tach (this has been posted before)

Speedo: Suzuki's use a 2240:60 speedo (aka 2240rpm = 60mph)

Best prices anywhere: http://www.partsnmore.com - I am not affiliated with this website in anyway, but I have looked around and they, by far, have the best prices on any part/accessory. Check them out. Unfortunately, they do not carry the speedo with the idiot lights...but I think I am just going to go the Radio Shack route and put in some LEDs (thanks byrdman76).

not cool

not cool

I got the speedo from Mikes XS and the 1-4 tach from JC whitney. The speedo is awesome with a clean led backlight. THe tach however has a old style bulb that looks like crap. The idiot lights were easy to do and I am very happy. Just that damn backlight on the tach. UGH.
Here are some pics of them mounted. Excuse the dirt....its getting there...OK!

Cool.

I can't decide whether to go tach-less (I mistakenly got the 1.5 tach) or sell this one and get the right one (undoubtedly at a loss). Leaning toward tach-less...

I like the balance of having the 2, at least for the looks. Most of the time you can roll by sound but having that number helps.

Yeah I feel the same way. It looks more balanced, and I do like the number, but I ride by feel and sound mostly anyway...

So.....my tach that I bought from OBB has shat the bed already. I was trucking along about 70ish and the tach started bouncing around from 7k to 11k. At first I almost pooed myself thinking my engine was toasted, but after a second I realized it was just the gauge.

PURE CRAP!!!!
