Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Actually, I prefer Black and Porsche Red!

That's what my bike looked like before the conversion to Red and Black except the pin stripes were run a little different...that's a 750, right?

Hap

It's a 750...
I was trying to loosely copy the '81 or '82 I think 1100 paintjob.

I like how it turned out.
Maybe I should have made the stripes a little bit fatter.

The brighter the better...

The brighter the better...

I would think the brighter the color or (louder) the better. Of course the louder the engine the better, it doesn't hurt to be heard either. That's why a nice throaty header always helps to draw attention to bikes also!! Here's what I came up with, I think it works pretty good!:-D

but I've had my eye on some of those light-modifications, you know the ones that make your headlight 'wobble' in the day time, and the tail-light 'pulse' when you first break. Mostly see them on big cruisers and don't know if they're compatible with GS 80's vintage electronics...

JBS, they actually work quite well. \\:D/ My (wife's) '82 850GL has a Kisan modulator in the headlight and HyperLites beside the license plate. I had Kisan units front and rear on my '84 Kawasaki Voyager 1300 and my son has them on his '86 Yamaha Venture Royale.

By Federal Law, the headlight modulator has to have a photosensor so it only works in sufficient daylight, so your high beam is steady at night. They also have brake light modulators, but I had the HyperLites that I took off my Wing when I put a Kisan modulator on my spoiler brake light. (Did you happen to notice four Japanese brands mentioned? We're equal opportunity around here. \\:D/ )

There is another company that sounds promising, but I have no experience with them or their product. They have a combo special that has head- and brake-light modulators for $85 plus shipping.

The HyperLites are available in several configurations, including a block of 8 red LEDs on each side, a block of 16 red LEDs or a block with 8 red and 8 yellow LEDs. This last group is really effective, because the red LEDs can be wired for tail AND brake lights (the brake lights will flash for about 5 seconds, then go steady), and the yellow LEDs greatly enhance your turn signals' visibility.

Here are the links to the products mentioned above:

Now that's a Bike of the Month candidate if I ever saw one!

Steve, Thats a nice color combo you got there. Do you have a pearl coat over the silver, or is it varigrated (SP?) silverleaf?

I have been told that Orange, particularly Neon Orange, is most noticeable to the human eye, mainly becasue of how rare it is in nature. Reflector paint would be very visible too.

I originaly though red would be great, but further research showed red is barely visible at night due to its wave length.

By far the safest though, is paint your bike so it 'mildly' resembles a police bike. I'm not encouraging you to impersonate an officer, but ya know.. wouldn't hurt.

and reflectors are excellent. I'm going to be adding a few to my bike.

Thanks, Hap. 8-[

Actually, I submitted it last summer after it had been painted, and have been waiting somewhat patiently ever since.
Of course, there are a LOT of other nice bikes here, too, so...

There have been a couple of changes since these pictures were taken. There is a new windshield, a Plexifairing 3 replaces the Plexifairing 2 that is in the pictures. There is now a chrome rack on the trunk. You can't see them in these pictures, but there were extra marker lights next to the license plate to give 3 points of light at the rear. These have been updated to LEDs with reflectors. (These are in addition to the HyperLites.) And there is now a J&M CB radio and XM satellite radio.

Yep, Momma's happy with her bike. \\:D/

Helmet colour is actually more important than bike colour. I believe a survey showed white tends to be the most noticeable.

But I must admit the pink bike was interesting.

What kind of paint did you use? Did you also use a clear top coat of some kind? What kind?
Thanks,
GS750Guy

I don't know....put "pink" always gets my attention :-D

Also, bought some cool black reflective tape to brighten up my helmet at night. Friend driving in cage behind me at night said I needed something beyond the reflectives on my jacket. Tape looks dark gray on my black helmet but lights up 'white' when hit by head lights....

Just my thoughts....

Bright colors yes, but nice accessories will make any bike really stand out:
