A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Big end Rotor Conundrum

Need to get my 1150 motor buttoned up.

Next thing on the list is installing the starter clutch/rotor. I'm just concerned about the condition of the 3 rotors I have available.

1st rotor:

First lip is smooth, then some galling about a 1/4 o the way down.

Crank end it came off of:

2nd rotor:

Taper is perfect, however I'm seeing some deterioration of the bonding agent holding the magnets. I can chip it off in a couple spots.

3rd rotor:

Similar condition to the first

Opinions or comments welcome.

Thanks,

Nic

It probably go hot due to the shunt regulation. For example 1150's are known for burning stators. I would highly wire wheel any of the loose stuff and call it good. If you are anal, you could apply a little high heat epoxy over the area you cleaned.

Make sure you get a SERIES R/R.

I'm also doing a SSPB run at the moment.

Thanks Pos. Kinda what I was thinking regarding heat. I've got everything but the SSPB for the 1150.

Consider how black a lot of stators are that show up. That little bit of browning is nothing like that. Apparently, the rotor is so thick at that point that it is able to wick away heat sufficiently well to avoid severe overheating. Similarly, the lip is open enough that the oil and air keep it from frying.

Got it Ray. Thanks. What's your opinion on the two rotors with the bit of galling on the tapers?

Hi I think a super fine valve grinding compound and lap taper back into compliance, just keep from bearings perhaps tape piece cardboard over the bearings with some plastic . Lapping was a common thing years ago on these tapers. Mike
