DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Bike just shut off while riding....

What exactly causes the bike to shut up when this hose pops off? I was under the impression that its just a vent tube...please help me understand a little better what happens

The vent tube pulls blow by gases from the engine. The seals in the motor form a somewhat restrictive maze so that a vacuum develops on the hose when the engine is running. Pull the hose and the large 1/2 inch hole in the airbox causes the diaphragms in the carbs to drop. These carbs are sensitive to vacuum and airflow across them. They are designed and tuned with a certain amount of restriction from filters and all. Take the air filter out and most won't start or run right at all.

This is why pod filters required different needles, jets, and position settings.

Your looking at a very small, high reving motor with aggressive cam timing, free flowing exhaust, and carbs that are designed to handle very high frequency air pulses. Aint it grand?

Thank you very much ! Good explanation...Im somewhat aware of the way the carbs worked because I had to take them apart to clean them etc....even then they had to be gone over by someone more experienced. However I wasnt aware that the carbs would be affected by the vent tube, because of its location. Gotta love GSR and you good folks here for putting up with us newbies

I'm planning on making monthly trips out west from Wilmington Delaware, if you would like to join us for a full day in the country let me know. We should start up next month if the weather warms up a bit.

Thats an awesome idea...Im actually very interested.Thank you for the offer. Let me know when your making plans and we can set something up:D

ahhhh...Chef, my man....why do you say such things??? What else do you think I should be looking for?

I think it's either the petcock, bad ignitor or connection somewhere.
I just don't think a vent line not connected will cause a stall and no start.

Well...Chef you were right. I havent been able to ride all week and last night I got a chance to and the problem is back....

Warmed the bike up for a good 10 mins, hopped on and pulled the sidestand up....pushed the bike forward with my feet about 5 inches and she stalled....weird or what?

Started her right back up and decided to take a spin around the neighborhood anyways to see if I could make it do it again and under what conditions it would happen. At every stop I came to, it was 50/50 if it would stall or not. Never happens while Im higher than about 2000 RPMs, and always when I pull in the clutch to downshift, and brake to a stop. The bike will restart without toying with the petcock. I can hit the button and give the throttle a twist and she starts right up but sometimes it tries to drop right off......now Im definitely thinking its a fuel issue. When I notice it trying to die if I can keep it running with the throttle but the RPMS will drop off immediately if I stop
