A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Bike wanting to turn over as soon as battery leads are connected.

It's a new one for me. 83 gs1100ES.

Seems like something is stuck or has shorted out, but would like to get some ideas where to look.

The starter constantly wants to fire. It's almost like the start button is stuck. Kill switch doesn't do anything, and the key is OFF, yet as soon as the battery terminals are connected it starts to crank.

Thanks,

Nic

This has happened to me and others here. Your key switch wires have fused at the connector. I don't remember if you have a fairing or not, if you do, it's in the "bag 'o wires", if not it's in your headlight bucket. You'll find the plastic connectors nearly melted or melted and a couple of wires fused causing your problem. Or, the other choice is in your fuse block area.

ok thanks, thought I was going crazy....again.... :-\\\

Have a fairing so something might have rubbed there.

Thanks,

Nic

smack the selenoid around with a wrench. not really hard but hard enough to jiggle the plunger down ..if its stuck in the up position.. That and also be sure the starter button isnt stuck...

I would check the starter solenoid>>> disconect the small wire and see if it still does it. If it still does it whack on the solenoid, see if it un sticks

I had a solenoid go south last summer on my EF. Does exactly what you're describing.
Check for continuity across the solenoid with the battery disconnected.

If it happens as soon as you connect the battery then more than likely the starter solenoid is sticking as the starting circuit requires more than just battery power to function for example a stuck button would still not cause the condition as the key switch would still prevent it's function. Although it is possible too have 2 seperate problems resulting in one complaint. Disconnect the solenoid and check continuity between the posts it should be normally open.

Checked connections first, and everything seemed passing.

Solenoid was indeed sticking.

Everything in working order now.

Thanks!

Nic
