A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey guys, I have another problem now. Just got my 83 gs750e running great 2 days ago so yesterday I figured it was time to address my oil leak on my valve cover. one of the cam cap holes was stripped so I was going to put in a helicoil. got the cover off and realized my helicoils were the wrong size. I had another set of cam caps I got when I purchased the cams I'm using now so I changed the one out, spun the motor over a few times to make sure nothing was in a bind and it seemed all was good. put it all back together and now the bike starts but will only stay started if I pull the choke! even if I raise the Idle I can get it to idle but if I coast to a stop the bike dies! I didnt mess with the carbs at all! what did I do wrong???

The cam caps are line bored with the head. A matching pair as it were. You should not mix and match caps because they will not be matched to your head. It's possible that the cap you installed is now pinching down on the cam and causing it to bind because the bore is not round. This said, there is typically enough cam bearing journal clearance such that you don't typically have issues. You best check it out right away though. If the cam and cap are scored up you got your answer.

Thanks Nissism, I'm in the process of taking the cover back off so I can check the bearing.

Got it fixed! what I didn't do yesterday was recheck my valve clearance after I jacked with my valvetrane! I took for granted that just by removing one cam cap everything wouldnt move. Boy was I wrong!!! checked my bearing today to see if it was scored but it looked real good. checked my valves and three were tight. Shes back to running right and purring like a kitten at idle. You cant take anything for granted!
