A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

:? I know this is whacky but has anyone encountered this. 79 GS 850 signals work fine stopped (passed safety) and at slower speeds but as soon as I move into upper gears and higher sppeeds ...no signals Help if ya can.

Turn Signals

Turn Signals

Take the stock flasher relay off your bike and throw it in the garbage. Go to Canadian Tire and by an electronic flasher relay, like the ones in the cars; the electronic ones are about $10 and the regulars are about $5. It will solve 99% of turn signal problems and it will work flawlessly all the time. Make sure you get one with the same amount of prongs as your original.

Is it speed or engine speed that is the difference? I'd bet you it's the speed of the engine. When your alternator (stator) starts to go out, it loses juice at high RPMs. The flasher unit requires X amount of amperage or it just won't open, and the light just comes on and stays on. Any other ideas? Possibly a bad ground in the headlight bucket?

I had thought about mentioning the charging circuit also. But his problem is pretty bizzare, so I felt someone else could break the ice (thanks tbarnby). I would think that if it was a charging problem he would have noticed other symptoms, like his bike not starting. Try revving your bike in the garage to see if you can duplicate the problem. Hmmm.....that is a toughie.

OK, this may not be very likey... but what about a bad connection at the flasher relay? At high speed the wind may move the wire enough to lose connection. It's easy to check and fix, and wouldn't require money spent. But like I said, it's not the most likely problem.

By the way, I have the same fix, car relay for the flashers... works wonders. :D

Sounds like the motor has a stutter in the higher rev range as well. :-)
