Bondo for that is cake...use two or three light passes, sanding inbetween and then feather it out with lighter and lighter grit sandpaper. 45min job.

AutoZone...they have the lil cans...and you cant ever have enough bondo..comes in handy alot. I would suggest the Gold formula, its only a couple bucks more and spreads and sands much nicer. BTW did you happen to get those cables mailed out yet??

yup. they went out. look for them end of week or beginning of next

You will find that where the badges fit is slightly raised so can leave a unsightly lump in your tank when filled over

Carefully linish this area back without hitting the tank before filling for a better finish :-D

Not if you Bondo the absolute sh!t out of it. I did on mine and the humps are completely gone. I did a rather good job if I do say so myself. I got the bondo to follow the curve of the tank nicely so it looks no lump or Bondo was ever there

err yes its possible to fill the crap out of it but the tank is now a different shape :-D i prefer to keep any filling to an absolute minimum as all my bikes get used HARD & i dont fancy a lump of filler dropping off my tank & going under the back wheel at the ton + in a corner :shock::shock:

I didnt have any problem with lumps either...and it didnt change my tank shape. Multiple thin coats and carefull sanding may be the reason.

You could also try a glazing compound, also called a spot or finishing compound. It comes in a squeezable tube.

This is essentially a body filler but it is a single-part item that needs no mixing, and it is light in texture, so you can spread it quite thin and reduce your filing and/or sanding.

It will not set quickly if you spread it too thick and usually works best if you do several thin applications, but the time between layers is brief.

You can get the whole procedure here:

Why would you want to use that?? Those holes dont go into the tank..JBweld will be a hell of a bear to sand.

LMAO ok filling the crap out of it was probably a bit exaggereated but NO I didn't change the shape of the tank :) and I doubt a piece will ever come off... Trust me the Rustoleum will do a nice job of keeping it on

what about JBweld? something like that maybe work

Erh yeah no don't do this. Learned fast that too much JB weld means ALOT of extra work later in terms of sanding it down. I can only imagine what kind of hell you would have trying to sand it all down and making it nice and pretty

I fill the emblem insets with most of the tanks I've worked with. I use Everkote Feather fill. It sands like powder and is much smoother to apply.

I cant stand Bondo!!! Even the gold stuff is a bear to sand!!!

You can get Everkote at any auto body paint supply store. Its about $16 a gallon....

Once you use it...you will never go back to Bondo again!!!

Just my 2 cents! :-D

Lead solder filling?? soft, easy, maleable etc.

Dink

I've often thought about doing this but where do you get the lead?????? Plus leadslinging ain't exactly easy. Any tips for newbs to the way of the lead?

I need to keep an eye out for this stuff.

For sure...bhppy does it conform to compound curves better? Bondo is a b1tch to form in those curves...least for me, as im not practiced with it.
