    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I don't have a factory manual for a 1982 GS300L D model. I need the bore limit for the cylinders for that bike. Gotta hone the cylinders and replace the rings. :D

sometimes the only to find it is to find out what oversize ring sizes are available for that motor from a parts vendor and then you will have your answer. most of the time the part number stays the same with the stock (std) size or over size (+.010) listed after it. make sure you can buy the rings before you bore it
 
almost forgot, i am not real sure of the size but someone here most likely will be along who does but, after about .020 oversize you will require a oversize piston also but don't quote me on that size it may be smaller or greater. thats one for someone like rapid ray or one of the other motor pros here.
 
Are you just honing it for new rings or are you boring it out for bigger pistons?
 
If a persons just honing for new rings can you just use same size rings
 
The honing just provides a rough surface to help wear the rings until they can seal, you are not actually increasing the size of the bore.
 
Theres been water in the engine before i owned it. It needs honed to get rid of some light surface rust, but before that can be done, my mechanic wants the bore limit numbers before he takes it to the machine shop. I'm not boring it out or anything. Also, if anyone has A GS300L Shop manual that they wouldn't mind selling, LET ME KNOW PLEASE! I don't care what year it is, 82, 83, or 85. They all have the same engine specs.
