I have seen posts for either.. and ill check out the grounds and the switch bad wires ect..

just curious if there is ever a reason both will stay on..

guy i go uybike from said they have been on for years..

I would put money on a rats nest of wires in the bucket.......

Those two lights are linked in some way. You will have to look at the wiring diagram to understand the wiring but I'd start by checking the side stand switch.

Depending on the model:

The oil pressure light comes on if there is no oil pressure (duh). But because it's so important, they set it up so the Side Stand light would also come on with no oil pressure. So the the oil pressure light burned out you'd still get some kind of warning if the engine lost oil pressure.

They are connected by a diode so they should both come on with no oil pressure if the system is working properly. If the side stand is down only the side stand light will come on. That's the beauty of the diode; one way electricity. You'll find it located in your headlight bucket. If the engine is running and you still get both lights, ground the oil pressure wire to the frame and see if the lights go out. Then check the oil pressure switch to make sure it's good.

Yes, Good explanation. Is something that is easy to understand, once you understand it, but can be hard to expalin to someone that doesnt understand it. And this is a good explanation.

I will explain it in pretty much the same manner.

Oil Pressure switch will make the Oil light AND the Sidestand Light come on.

Sidestand swtich makes only the sidetand light come on.

And its the diode that that makes this happen that way.

If the doiode is removed Or fails open, then oil pressure will light only only pressure light, and side stand light only sidestand light.

If diode shorts out, then the oil pressure will light both, .... and the sidestand will light both. But that is not your problem, or likley not. Yor problem is that they are both an all the time, they never go out (if I understand you properly).

No, not for the 850G and 1100G that I am familair with anyway. If engine running and both lights on; pull off the oil pressure switch wire from the oil pressure swtich and see if the lights go out. The oil pressure swtich is normally closed with no oil pressure and connects the wire to the ground to make the light(s) come on. The oil preossure should make the swtich open and turn off the light. So pulling the wire off will be about the same as the oil pressure opening the swtich (if the oil pressure would open the swtich).

Just looked ast schematic of 750E on BassCliffBikeCliff site.

Yep,
Oil Pressure switch conects the wire to the ground (engine case) to light the light(s), and opens to turn light off.

So pull the wire to see if lights go out. If lights go out, then know that the oil preossure switch is not opening.
If light goes out, then know the oil preossure swtich was not opening, What will not know is if the swtich just isnt responding to the oil pressure or if there isnt oil pressure.

I see on the scehamtic the interconenct between the oil pressure light and the sidfestand light but dont see the diode shown. ....

But anyway, your problem is that the light(s) dont ever go out, Lets look into that part.

Let us know what you find.

My apologies. I did get that light/ground part backwards. Yes. the light always has power but only comes on if the circuit is complete via the oil pressure switch being GROUNDED (closed). When you unplug the wire at the oil pressure sensor the light should go out.

You could check the oil pressure sensor by running a wire from the top of the oil pressure switch (the connector) to a 12v light, then on to the battery. One simple circuit, + battery to light to oil pressure switch. The light should come on with the engine off. Then, if the light stays on with the engine running you either have a bad oil pressure sensor or no oil pressure.

Yeah i figured once i started the oil change.. and of course.. the one of the nuts that holds on that sensor and the oil filter cap gasket is stripped.. fml

The little acorns are spinning? There are a few posts here about replacing the studs becasue they are soft.

You seem to be having a nice day though.:D

we replaced the studs on my nephews 1100GL..Took vice grips and unscrewed them from the casing. Got new ones at Nappa for like 2 bucks each.. Did away with the acorn nuts as well and went to washers and regular nut. Like Jeepster said..very soft threads in acorn nuts..strip easily.

So how can i get this acorn off?

is it the acorn? or the stud threads inside the acorn or the threads inside the block that are stripped?

Put a flat tip screwdriver in between it and the housing and pry out while spinning the nut with a wrench. Whatever is stipped it will begin creeping out.
