Brake calipers question

[GS750]

The twin calipers on my GS750B (1977) are "ok" but need overhauling. I cant see any brand on them but they are sort of rounded and appear as per the pictures on the 77 parts manual but I have absolutely NO IDEA what they were transplanted from. I am expecting major dramas (again) when the time comes to order kits and install them because that is exactly what happened when I ordered my front brake master cyl kit....


anyways, long story short. My donor bike is a 1979 GS750LN and it has a different set of front calipers (asco?) which are also in need of an overhaul, but at least I know that they are actually from a '79 GS750LN so ordering parts wont be an issue.


Which would be the better calipers or are they comparable??

I thought those donor forks were 37mm? If so, I think that would make that front end from a 1000L, not a 750. In either case the calipers are the same. The parts fishe details all the differences so you might want to have a look for yourself.

Hi Ed, I checked as many parts sources as I can and it appears it is actually a 1979 GS750LN, and from what I have been able to see they are 37mm forks from the factory

Okay, I was assuming all early 750 forks were 35mm. I believe you now.

It seems that the seals are still available for both type of calipers. The leading axle forks take different caliper hangers than the straight fork calipers so they won't interchange between them though.

Thanks Ed, I just noticed that about 10 minutes ago while I was in the shed.

I found the awesome picture (below) of what this bike probably looked like, everything shown in this picture is obviously in better condition than this as it sat in a paddock for many years until I recently acquired it

It is still great for parts though

I have the zedder suzuki parts cross reference program and it is also proving to be an awesome asset in locating interchangeable parts
